KARACHI – Four police personnel have been suspended and an inquiry ordered after they were accused of allegedly detaining a citizen and extorting money during a snap-checking operation near Darakhshan Police Station in Karachi.
The local police said that the incident occurred during a routine snap-checking operation when officers stopped a citizen for inspection.
After the search, the personnel allegedly kept the man in their vehicle and drove him around different roads for some time before releasing him.
The citizen alleged that the officers demanded and received Rs50,000 in exchange for his release.
Following the complaint, police authorities suspended the four personnel involved and ordered a departmental inquiry to determine the facts and fix responsibility.
The police said further action will be taken in light of the inquiry’s findings.
