KARACHI – Four armed men robbed an Edhi Centre in the Sohrab Goth area of Karachi and fled with Rs65 million in cash, the police said on Saturday.
Edhi Centre’s spokesperson said that the money had been withdrawn from a bank to pay employees’ salaries when the robbers targeted the facility.
The suspects, riding two motorcycles, arrived at the centre wearing helmets and carried out the robbery before fleeing with the cash, according to initial information provided by employees.
The police said they were collecting statements from the centre’s staff and reviewing available evidence as part of the investigation.
The authorities are also obtaining CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspects and trace their movements following the robbery.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and sought a report from the Inspector General of Police.
The chief minister said the Edhi Centre provides vital support to poor, vulnerable and abandoned people and directed police to conduct an immediate investigation and bring those responsible to justice.
He reiterated that protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the government’s top priority.
The police officials said further investigation was under way and efforts were being made to identify and arrest the suspects.
