SPA successfully completes Eidul Azha cleanliness operation – Pakistan Observer

Senior Minister pays tribute to sanitation heroes at Suthra Punjab Authority

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, while addressing a press conference at the Suthra Punjab Authority, stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a historic and unprecedented cleanliness operation was successfully carried out across the province during Eid-ul-Adha 2026. She said that the sanitation heroes of Suthra Punjab Authority worked tirelessly for 72 consecutive hours in extreme temperatures of up to 45°C, ensuring a clean, healthy, and pleasant environment for the public.

She remarked that following the Chief Minister’s recent surgery, while she was recovering, her first inquiry was about the progress of the cleanliness operation, reflecting her deep commitment to public service and this flagship initiative. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has appreciated all officers, commissioners, deputy commissioners, relevant departments, CMIT, and the entire Suthra Punjab team involved in the operation. Marriyum Aurangzeb informed that more than 184,000 sanitation workers participated in the Eid cleanliness operation. Around 40,000 machinery units, 12,000 additional loader rickshaws, and pickup vehicles were deployed, while over 7,000 additional machines were assigned for the timely clearance of temporary waste collection points. She stated that 290 cattle markets were established across Punjab, while dedicated sanitation teams were deployed at 1,278 collective slaughter sites. Special cleaning and washing arrangements were made for 6,500 mosques and Eid grounds. Furthermore, 12 million environmentally friendly biodegradable waste bags were distributed free of cost among citizens.

The Senior Provincial Minister stated that more than 376,000 tons of animal waste and refuse were removed and disposed of promptly across Punjab, including Lahore. On the first day of Eid, 125,000 tons of waste were cleared; on the second day, over 112,000 tons; on the third day, more than 82,000 tons; while 54,000 tons of waste were removed on Chand Raat. She further said that to keep streets, neighborhoods, and slaughter sites free from odor and unhygienic conditions, 2.1 million kilograms of lime, 40,000 liters of rose water, and 150,000 liters of phenyl disinfectant were used, helping maintain exemplary cleanliness and public health standards throughout the province.
