Do you know? Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey almost played the main lead in James Cameron\u2019s romance epic \u2018Titanic\u2019<\/em>, before the title eventually starred Leonardo DiCaprio, because he turned down a request from the veteran filmmaker.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As revealed by \u2018Titanic\u2019<\/em> producer Jon Landau, in his upcoming posthumous memoir \u2018The Bigger Picture\u2019<\/em>, Matthew McConaughey was in the running for the coveted lead role, and even did the screen test with the movie\u2019s heroine, Kate Winslet.<\/p>\n

However, despite impressing Winslet with his \u2018presence and charm\u2019, the frontrunner for Jack Dawson lost the opportunity because he refused to give in to Cameron\u2019s demands.<\/p>\n

According to the producer, Cameron asked McConaughey to repeat the audition without his Texas accent, but the \u2018Interstellar\u2019<\/em> star wasn\u2019t interested in doing so, and told him, \u201cNo. That is pretty good. Thanks.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s just say that was it for McConaughey,\u201d Landau said.<\/p>\n

DiCaprio eventually played the lead opposite Kate Winslet\u2019s Rose DeWitt Bukater when \u2018Titanic\u2019 <\/em>sailed into theatres on December 19, 1997.<\/p>\n

The title went on to become the highest-grossing film of the time, and bagged at least 11 Academy Awards out of the 14 nods, including Best Picture and Best Director for Cameron.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
