{"id":94745,"date":"2025-06-02T15:06:06","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T15:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/crypto-council-agrees-on-technical-committee-to-draft-framework-for-digital-and-virtual-assets\/"},"modified":"2025-06-02T15:06:06","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T15:06:06","slug":"crypto-council-agrees-on-technical-committee-to-draft-framework-for-digital-and-virtual-assets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/crypto-council-agrees-on-technical-committee-to-draft-framework-for-digital-and-virtual-assets\/","title":{"rendered":"Crypto council agrees on technical committee to draft framework for digital and virtual assets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>The Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC) has agreed to form a technical committee to draft a framework for digital and virtual assets, the Ministry of Finance said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The PCC was officially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1897897\">launched<\/a> in March to \u201cregulate and integrate blockchain technology and digital assets\u201d into the country\u2019s financial landscape.<\/p>\n<p>According to a press release by the finance ministry, the meeting was chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and attended by PCC Chief Executive Officer Bilal Bin Saqib, governor of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), chairman of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), and government officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe meeting focused on the draft regulatory framework for digital and virtual assets in Pakistan, aiming to align with international standards and evolving technological trends,\u201d the press release said.<\/p>\n<p>It added that the participants discussed options for establishing \u201can autonomous regulatory authority to oversee and regulate the digital finance and crypto ecosystem in the country\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was agreed to constitute a technical committee comprising representatives from SBP, SECP, Law Division, and IT &amp; Telecom Division,\u201d the ministry said, adding that the committee will review the draft laws and propose a robust framework and governance structure to be reviewed by the PCC in the next meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The press release said that the PCC members gave valuable input for \u201ca secure, transparent, and innovation-friendly regulatory environment\u201d which aims to promote \u201cresponsible blockchain adoption, safeguarding investors, and advancing financial inclusion\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The finance minister appreciated the contributions of all stakeholders and reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to creating a \u201cfuture-ready financial infrastructure that supports innovation while maintaining financial stability and regulatory compliance\u201d, it added.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:250px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1905500\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Last week, the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance held a meeting, where PPP MNA Sharmila Farooqi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1914084\/finance-secretary-says-ban-on-cryptocurrency-still-in-place-stresses-need-for-regulation\">introduced<\/a> a bill on digital currency regulations. Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal said that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1750061\">ban<\/a> on cryptocurrency was still in place across Pakistan, stressing the need for its regulation during the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The same day, Saqib had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1914060\/pakistan-unveils-first-govt-led-strategic-bitcoin-reserve\">unveiled<\/a> the country\u2019s first government-led Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. He announced the establishment of a national bitcoin wallet, \u201cholding digital assets already in state custody \u2014 not for sale or speculation, but as a sovereign reserve signalling long-term belief in decentralised finance\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Cryptocurrencies are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1905500\">gaining momentum<\/a> globally as the number of use cases is increasing and many countries are now making them legal.
