{"id":94509,"date":"2025-05-27T15:04:09","date_gmt":"2025-05-27T15:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/nab-to-auction-six-bahria-town-properties-in-rawalpindi-islamabad-on-june-12\/"},"modified":"2025-05-27T15:04:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-27T15:04:09","slug":"nab-to-auction-six-bahria-town-properties-in-rawalpindi-islamabad-on-june-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/nab-to-auction-six-bahria-town-properties-in-rawalpindi-islamabad-on-june-12\/","title":{"rendered":"NAB to auction six Bahria Town properties in Rawalpindi, Islamabad on June 12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday announced a public auction of six Bahria Town properties in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on June 12.<\/p>\n<p>The development adds on to NAB\u2019s previous actions against property tycoon Malik Riaz, who owns Bahria Town and is an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1803717\">absconder<\/a> in the \u00a3190 million <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1751790\/imran-arrest-what-is-the-al-qadir-trust-case\">Al Qadir Trust Case<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a notification today, NAB listed six properties of the project owned by tycoon Malik Riaz, including five in Rawalpindi and one in Islamabad.<\/p>\n<p>The properties were being auctioned to recover the defaulted amount of a plea bargain under Section 33E of the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/pakistancode.gov.pk\/english\/UY2FqaJw1-apaUY2Fqa-apaUY2Npa5ljaQ%3D%3D-sg-jjjjjjjjjjjjj\">NAB Ordinance 1999<\/a>, it added.<\/p>\n<p>NAB media director Birj Lal Dosani confirmed the details to <em>Dawn.com<\/em>, stating that the amount was being recovered in connection with corruption charges under a plea bargain.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:250px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1823727\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Earlier this year, the watchdog <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1886785\">warned<\/a> the public against investing in Bahria Town\u2019s Dubai project and began <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1888343\">extradition<\/a> efforts for Riaz and his son.<\/p>\n<p>In February, NAB [filed] a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1889193\">reference<\/a> against Riaz, ex-Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Minister Sharjeel Memon, and others for land transfer to Bahria Town. The watchdog also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1892931\">filed<\/a> two corruption references for unlawf\u00adu\u00adlly acquiring 4,500 kanals of state land in Rawalpindi\u2019s New Murree for Bahria Golf City and Takht Pari forest area.<\/p>\n<p>In March, NAB said it had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1898491\">sealed<\/a> \u201cnumerous\u201d commercial and residential properties of Bahria Town in Karachi, Lahore, Takht Pari, New Murree\/Golf City, and Islamabad over corruption cases filed against Riaz. It had also frozen hundreds of bank accounts and vehicles of Bahria Town.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, a Rawalpindi Accountability court had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1898491#:~:text=Arrest%20warrants%20issued%20for%20Malik%20Riaz%2C%20Parvez%20Elahi\">issued<\/a> non-bailable arrest warrants for Riaz and his son, Ali Ahmed Malik, in the Takht Pari reference.<\/p>\n<p>NAB has multiple times warned the public to \u201cavoid any attractive inducements from Bahria Town and to protect their hard-earned savings\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:250px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1424398\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>According to senior counsel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1713850#:~:text=Khawaja%20Haris%20said%20a%20plea%20bargain%20agreement%20was%20considered%20successful%20if%20an%20accused%20confesses%20to%20a%20crime%20and%20then%20agrees%20to%20return%20the%20money%20in%20return%20for%20%E2%80%9Ca%20lighter%20punishment\">Khawaja Haris<\/a>, a plea bargain agreement was considered successful if an accused confesses to a crime and then agrees to return the money in return for \u201ca lighter punishment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>From 2000 to 2022, the accountability watchdog recovered Rs65 billion through plea bargain out of a total of Rs91.55bn, a NAB official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1713850#:~:text=From%202000%20to%202022%2C%20NAB%20recovered%20an%20amount%20of%20Rs91.547%20billion%20%E2%80%94%20Rs65bn%20through%20plea%20bargain%20and%20the%20rest%20under%20the%20voluntary%20ret%C2%ADurn%20plan\">told the Supreme Court<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday announced a public auction of six Bahria Town properties in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on June 12.
