The rodeo world is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Roy Cooper, a legendary cowboy and eight-time world champion, who reportedly died in a house fire Tuesday night at his property in Decatur, Texas. He was 69.<\/p>\n

Known affectionately as \u201cThe Super Looper,\u201d Cooper was a trailblazing force in calf roping and professional rodeo, earning his place as one of the most iconic figures in the history of the sport.<\/p>\n

His passing has sent shockwaves through the rodeo community, with tributes pouring in from across the country.<\/p>\n

“It is with great sadness that our family shares the passing of our Dad, The Super Looper, Roy Cooper,” read a statement posted to Tuf Cooper\u2019s Facebook page, Roy\u2019s son and fellow rodeo star. “We\u2019re all in shock and at a loss for words from this tragedy at the moment.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

While local authorities have yet to confirm the cause of death, media reports suggest a fire broke out at Cooper\u2019s home.<\/p>\n

Randall Preuinger, Wise County EMS director, noted that he had \u201cnothing to confirm,\u201d though the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and multiple rodeo organizations have acknowledged the tragic news.<\/p>\n

“Roy wasn\u2019t just a legend in the arena \u2014 he was a legend in life,” shared a Texas-based rodeo organization.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

A Cowboy\u2019s Legacy<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Born in New Mexico, Cooper made history as the PRCA Rookie of the Year in 1976, and went on to win eight world titles, including the coveted All-Around Cowboy crown in 1983.<\/p>\n

His calm demeanor, fierce talent, and unmatched dedication earned him the nickname \u201cSuper Looper\u201d\u2014a title he modestly brushed off.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know if I\u2019m no Super Looper, I\u2019m just Roy,\u201d he said in a February episode of Let\u2019s Freakin Rodeo<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Cooper\u2019s influence on the sport spanned generations. He inspired future champions, mentored young cowboys, and maintained an unshakable love for rodeo, family, and faith.<\/p>\n
