{"id":93370,"date":"2025-04-27T14:54:38","date_gmt":"2025-04-27T14:54:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/uber-ceo-highlights-uae-driverless-push-at-world-summit-the-express-tribune\/"},"modified":"2025-04-27T14:54:38","modified_gmt":"2025-04-27T14:54:38","slug":"uber-ceo-highlights-uae-driverless-push-at-world-summit-the-express-tribune","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/uber-ceo-highlights-uae-driverless-push-at-world-summit-the-express-tribune\/","title":{"rendered":"Uber CEO highlights UAE driverless push at World Summit | The Express Tribune"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"\">\n<figure class=\"flex items-center text-center\"><figcaption class=\"text-3 font-sans uppercase mr-3 whitespace-no-wrap\"><span class=\"ls-art\">Listen\u00a0to\u00a0article<\/span><\/figcaption><audio class=\"h-5 w-60 sm:w-80 rounded-none\" preload=\"metadata\" controlslist=\"noplaybackrate nodownload\" id=\"tts\" controls=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i.tribune.com.pk\/attachments\/speech_20250427091656855-ZH6iS.mp3\"\/><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi praised the company\u2019s growing partnerships in the UAE for self-driving car services, speaking at the Semafor World Economy Summit 2025 in Washington on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Khosrowshahi highlighted Uber\u2019s collaboration with China\u2019s WeRide, which has already introduced autonomous vehicle services in Abu Dhabi and plans to expand into Dubai.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s a terrific team, and we offer WeRides now in Abu Dhabi, and recently announced that expansion into Dubai as well,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership, launched in 2024, saw self-driving WeRide cars operating on Abu Dhabi\u2019s Saadiyat Island and Yas Island, with future growth expected.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicles, operated by UAE transport company Tawasul, run on the Uber platform and include a human safety operator behind the wheel.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Uber and WeRide also partnered with Dubai\u2019s Roads and Transport Authority to introduce driverless taxis to Dubai, further strengthening the UAE\u2019s push toward sustainable and innovative transport solutions.<\/p>\n<p>Khosrowshahi, speaking during the &#8220;AI and the Next Tech Revolution&#8221; portion of the summit, also discussed challenges in the broader automotive sector, referencing Tesla\u2019s struggles amid declining profits and political controversies surrounding CEO Elon Musk.<\/p>\n<p>While noting the difficulty of the original equipment manufacturing business, he praised Tesla\u2019s vehicles, admitting he owns one and occasionally uses its self-driving features.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s delightful but I have to take over once in a while,\u201d Khosrowshahi said.<\/p>\n<p>Uber continues to invest in autonomous vehicle development, balancing its long-standing reliance on human drivers with future ambitions for driverless transport.<\/p>\n<p>Other notable speakers at the summit included Khaldoon Al Mubarak, managing director of Mubadala, former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, LinkedIn cofounder Reid Hoffman, and Nasdaq chief Adena Friedman.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Listen\u00a0to\u00a0article Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi praised the company\u2019s growing partnerships in the UAE for self-driving car services, speaking at the Semafor World Economy Summit 2025 in Washington on Friday.
