{"id":91087,"date":"2025-03-01T23:04:33","date_gmt":"2025-03-01T23:04:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/senator-siddiqui-says-us-moving-away-from-europe-after-zelensky-row\/"},"modified":"2025-03-01T23:04:33","modified_gmt":"2025-03-01T23:04:33","slug":"senator-siddiqui-says-us-moving-away-from-europe-after-zelensky-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/senator-siddiqui-says-us-moving-away-from-europe-after-zelensky-row\/","title":{"rendered":"Senator Siddiqui says US moving away from Europe after Zelensky row"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairman Irfan Siddiqui on Saturday warned that the US runs the risk of alienating allies like the European Union if President Donald Trump continues to treat them the same way he did visiting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.<\/p>\n<p>The US president and his Ukrainian counterpart were involved in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1894932\/trump-zelensky-row-in-oval-office-after-dispute-on-compromise-with-russia\">acrid spat<\/a> when the latter visited the White House on Friday, with Trump saying Zelensky was \u201cnot thankful\u201d for US support amid the three-year-long war with Russia and Vice President JD Vance accusing Zelensky of being \u201cdisrespectful\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re gambling with the lives of millions of people,\u201d Trump said. \u201cYou\u2019re gambling with World War Three, and what you\u2019re doing is very disrespectful to the country \u2014 this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:250px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1895083\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Speaking on the <em>DawnNewsTV<\/em> programme \u2018<em>Doosra Rukh<\/em>\u2019 on Saturday, the senator said that Trump is acting without considering the consequences because it is his final term in office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is not concerned about votes, so he is doing whatever he wishes, but this behaviour is not being accepted on the world stage,\u201d Siddiqui expressed.<\/p>\n<p>Siddiqui added that Trump\u2019s row with Zelensky demonstrates a great deal about America\u2019s attitude towards its allies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you look at their (Trump and Zelensky\u2019s) conversation, you get the sense that if America can openly humiliate one of its allies, one it has supported and armed for years,\u201d he said. \u201cOther countries might no longer be able to trust the US.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder Trump\u2019s leadership, the US is rapidly headed in a direction that will leave it completely isolated,\u201d the senator added, warning that America may alienate the EU and worsen already frosty relations with China.<\/p>\n<p>Siddiqui warned that the outcome would be \u201cthe EU, China and other countries coming together\u201d while the US remains isolated.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"you-cannot-present-options-to-the-pti\" href=\"#you-cannot-present-options-to-the-pti\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>\u2018You cannot present options to the PTI\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Discussing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1887317\">recently abandoned<\/a> talks between the government and the PTI, Siddiqui said that it was impossible to present options during negotiations because  \u201cthey did not assess them in any forum or through any sort of\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe PTI\u2019s decisions come straight from the lips of Imran Khan,\u201d Siddiqui said. \u201cI cannot say what he is thinking, but the PTI did not know what they were doing until they received instructions from their leader.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Imran ordered \u2018no more talks\u2019, the PTI committee was completely caught off guard,\u201d he added.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>The senator added that the party is suggesting alliances while simultaneously calling for civil disobedience, sending letters and publishing \u201cexplosive\u201d articles in <em><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/7262072\/imran-khan-writes-from-prison-pakistan\/\">Time<\/a><\/em> magazine. \u201cThey (the PTI) are impossible to predict,\u201d he expressed.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if the PTI wanted to continue negotiations despite Imran\u2019s instructions, Siddiqui responded in the affirmative. \u201cI remember [PTI Chairman] Gohar Ali Khan went to see Imran, and when he returned, there were still three or four days left before the deadline to meet their demands.
