Priyantha Kumara<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>a Sri Lankan national<\/span><\/span> w<\/span><\/span>as brutally lynched and his body<\/span><\/span> set on fire by workers of private factories on Sialkot\u2019s Wazirabad Road<\/span><\/span> on Friday<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A police official told The Express Tribune<\/em><\/a> at the crime scene that Kumara was the operational manager at the factory for the past seven years. He was accused by the factory workers of \u201ctearing down Durood Sharif.<\/span><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Several gruesome video clips <\/span><\/span>have since been <\/span><\/span>shared on social media<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> in which the <\/span><\/span>mob <\/span><\/span>can be seen <\/span><\/span>beating the victim while chanting slogans against blasphemy. Many <\/span><\/span>in<\/span><\/span> the mob ma<\/span><\/span>k<\/span><\/span>e no attempt to hide their identity and some <\/span><\/span>even take selfies<\/span><\/span> in <\/span><\/span>front of the burning corpse. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The sickening incident <\/span><\/span>has <\/span><\/span>outraged the nation <\/span><\/span>and<\/span><\/span> the civil and military leaders <\/span><\/span>have <\/span><\/span>denounced it<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span>President Arif Alvi said the vigilante attack has nothing to do with religion as Prime Minister Imran Khan<\/span><\/span> has<\/span><\/span> promised that those responsible \u201cwill be punished with the full severity of the law\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Now, celebrities are taking to their social media to condemn the gruesome killing and desecration. Several are speaking up against the growing radicalisation, fascism in the country and looking to Imran Khan for answers. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For Ushna Shah, the scariest part is, \u201cthere are still many who will argue \u2018minorities are safe in Pakistan\u2019 every time I raise my voice for them.\u201d Sharing the premier\u2019s tweet, she added, \u201cBy all means, make more \u2018roohani madrasahs\u2019 and further radicalise what\u2019s left of this country.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mansha Pasha also feels its high time vloggers and bloggers took a break from propagating a \u2018soft image\u2019 of Pakistan. \u201cSo, who\u2019s the next vlogger who\u2019s going to make feel good tourist ads and proclaim how safe the country is for foreigners?\u201d she questioned. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted that the “horrific, vigilante attack” on the factory and the burning alive of the Sri Lankan man was a ‘day of shame’ for Pakistan. “I am overseeing the investigations and, let there be no mistake, all those responsible will be punished with the full severity of the law. Arrests are in progress,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Responding to premier\u2019s tweet on the issue, President Dr Arif Alvi also said the Sialkot incident was \u201cdefinitely very sad and shameful and not religious in any way whatsoever\u201d. \u201cIslam is a religion established on the cannons of deliberative justice rather than mob lynching.\u201d<\/p>\n
