{"id":88429,"date":"2024-12-22T22:37:01","date_gmt":"2024-12-22T22:37:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/on-eve-of-al-qadir-trust-case-verdict-defence-minister-asif-renews-corruption-allegations-against-imran\/"},"modified":"2024-12-22T22:37:01","modified_gmt":"2024-12-22T22:37:01","slug":"on-eve-of-al-qadir-trust-case-verdict-defence-minister-asif-renews-corruption-allegations-against-imran","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/on-eve-of-al-qadir-trust-case-verdict-defence-minister-asif-renews-corruption-allegations-against-imran\/","title":{"rendered":"On eve of Al-Qadir Trust case verdict, Defence Minister Asif renews corruption allegations against Imran"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>With the verdict in PTI founder Imran Khan\u2019s \u00a3190 million Al-Qadir Trust case to be announced tomorrow (Monday), Defence Minister Khawaja Asif renewed allegations of financial corruption against the ex-premier.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--stretch  media--embed  \">\n<p><div class=\"ast-oembed-container \" style=\"height: 100%;\"><iframe title=\"Federal Minister Of Defense Khawaja Asif&#039;s Press Conference In London  | Dawn News\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EW5DzR_DyWg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>In December 2023, the National Accou\u00adn\u00adt\u00ada\u00adbility Bureau (NAB) filed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1794256\/nab-files-reference-against-imran-bushra-bibi-and-6-others-in-al-qadir-trust-case\">corruption reference<\/a> against Imran and seven others, including his wife, in connection with Al-Qadir University.<\/p>\n<p>The case alleges that Imran and Bushra Bibi obtained billions of rupees and land worth hundreds of kanals from Bahria Town for legalising Rs50 billion that was identified and returned to the country by the UK during the previous PTI government.<\/p>\n<p>An accountability court on Wednesday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1879545\">reserved its verdict<\/a> in the case and Accountability Judge Nasir Javed Rana announced that the verdict will be announced on December 23 (Monday).<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in London, Asif said that in the PTI\u2019s four years of governance, \u201ccorruption of trillions [of rupees] took place\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has been a lot of corruption in the last 75 years, but Imran Khan broke all records,\u201d Asif alleged. \u201cImran and all of the people around him were involved in corruption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that when PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif was pursuing Pakistan\u2019s atomic programme, he received multiple monetary offers from other countries, including the US, to halt the programme. \u201cNawaz focused on making Pakistan an atomic power,\u201d Asif said. \u201cIf Imran were in the same position, he\u2019d forsake the national interest and take the $5 billion for himself.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:250px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1751790\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The defence minister said he wanted to clarify \u201cthings being posted on social media\u201d about the Al-Qadir trust case. \u201cThey (PTI supporters and members) tweet that the \u00a3190m went into the Supreme Court\u2019s accounts, but that is not true. The money went into Malik Riaz\u2019s accounts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the Supreme Court took notice, the differential between the value of the land and how much Malik Riaz paid was around Rs600bn,\u201d Asif said. \u201cBahria [Bibi] was liable to pay and Imran Khan paid \u00a3190m against that. I brought this up in the public accounts committee first that this was the state\u2019s money, and it belonged to the people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asif alleged that Imran \u201cobliged\u201d Riaz and received 400 acres of land in return, as well as a position on the board of the Al-Qadir Trust University. \u201cImran, his wife and (Farah) Gogi all sit on the board,\u201d he said. \u201cThe people of Pakistan need to know the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The defence minister alleged that the ex-premier misappropriated funds from the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital as well. \u201cHe took $7 million from the hospital and moved it abroad,\u201d Asif alleged. \u201cHe invested $3.5m in a friend\u2019s company in Muscat and it went under. Then, he invested $3.5m in France.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis money belonged to Shaukat Khanum, it belonged to a good cause,\u201d he added. \u201cI am wholeheartedly behind the cause, it\u2019s very noble. Our dispute is that this man (Imran) siphons funds for himself.
