Ridley Scott, his brother, was offered the chance to direct the new installment but declined.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, the director\u2014known for remarkable films like \u201cGladiator\u201d\u2014opened up about the offer and shared why he had turned it down, leaving everyone a bit emotional.<\/p>\n<p>Ridley Scott revealed in an interview with \u201cThe Hollywood Reporter\u201d that he was initially offered the film. He explained, \u201cI said, \u2018I don\u2019t want to follow my brother.\u2019 Tony was always interested in today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cHouse of Gucci\u201d director mentioned that he bases many of his projects on history. When he doesn\u2019t, he prefers creating movies rooted in fantasy or exploring science fiction stories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTony didn\u2019t like fantasy,\u201d the filmmaker added.<\/p>\n<p>Joseph Kosinski later directed \u201cTop Gun: Maverick\u201d. For those unfamiliar, Tony Scott directed the original \u201cTop Gun\u201d in 1986, which became an action-adventure classic. His other beloved films include \u201cTrue Romance\u201d and \u201cMan on Fire\u201d. The highly acclaimed director died by suicide in August 2012 at the age of 68.<\/p>\n<p>Joseph Kosinski has also directed notable films like \u201cOnly the Brave\u201d and the 2010 sequel to the iconic movie \u201cTron\u201d, titled \u201cTron: Legacy\u201d, among others.<\/p>\n<p>When \u201cThe Hollywood Reporter\u201d asked if he wanted to add anything about his brother, \u201cExodus: Gods and Kings\u201d director Ridley Scott responded touchingly, \u201cI miss my brother.\u201d Just as the original \u201cTop Gun\u201d made a tremendous impact worldwide, its sequel, \u201cTop Gun: Maverick\u201d, also became a major hit.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Cruise leads the movie, returning as Pete \u201cMaverick\u201d Mitchell. In this latest installment, Maverick trains a new generation of pilots. The film also features Miles Teller and Glen Powell, with Val Kilmer reprising his iconic role as Tom \u201cIceman\u201d Kazansky from the original.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, prepare for another blockbuster as Ridley Scott returns with the sequel to \u201cGladiator\u201d.
