{"id":8587,"date":"2023-09-28T01:42:08","date_gmt":"2023-09-28T01:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/india-would-look-into-any-specific-info-on-sikh-separatist-killing-in-canada-jaishankar\/"},"modified":"2023-09-28T01:42:08","modified_gmt":"2023-09-28T01:42:08","slug":"india-would-look-into-any-specific-info-on-sikh-separatist-killing-in-canada-jaishankar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/india-would-look-into-any-specific-info-on-sikh-separatist-killing-in-canada-jaishankar\/","title":{"rendered":"India would look into any \u2018specific\u2019 info on Sikh separatist killing in Canada: Jaishankar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>India\u2019s foreign minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on Tuesday that India has told Canada it was open to looking into any \u201cspecific\u201d or \u201crelevant\u201d information it provides on the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2023\/jun\/20\/advocate-separate-sikh-state-india-shot-dead-canada-hardeep-singh-nijjar-temple\">killing<\/a> of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said last week that Ottawa had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1777075\">credible intelligence<\/a> linking Indian agents to the murder, prompting an angry initial reaction from New Delhi, which denies the allegation.<\/p>\n<p>Asked about the allegations at a Council on Foreign Relations event in New York, Jaishankar detailed India\u2019s response in diplomatic engagements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne, we told the Canadians that this is not the government of India\u2019s policy,\u201d he said. \u201cTwo, we told the Canadians saying that look, if you have something specific, if you have something relevant, you know, let us know \u2014 we are open to looking at it.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1777230\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>India last week suspended new visas for Canadians and asked Ottawa to reduce its diplomatic presence in the country, citing what it called a deteriorating security environment.<\/p>\n<p>India had been \u201cbadgering the Canadians\u201d about its claims that organised criminals are based there, a reference to separatists like Nijjar, he said, adding that India had made \u201ca large number of extradition requests\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe picture is not complete without the context,\u201d he added. \u201cYou also have to appreciate that in the last few years, Canada actually has seen a lot of organised crime, you know, relating to, you know, the secessionist forces, organised crime, violence, extremism, they\u2019re all very, very deeply mixed up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Allies of Canada, including the United States, have cautiously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1776905\">expressed<\/a> concern over the claims and urged India to cooperate with Canada\u2019s investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The US ambassador to Canada told Canadian television that some information on the case had been gathered by the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, which includes the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>India\u2019s foreign minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on Tuesday that India has told Canada it was open to looking into any \u201cspecific\u201d or \u201crelevant\u201d information it provides on the killing of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
