Hollywood actor Aaron Pierre, best known for Netflix\u2019s \u201cRebel Ridge,\u201d has officially joined the \u201cLanterns\u201d series at HBO.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pierre will portray John Stewart in the series, a younger Lantern and the company\u2019s first Black superhero, according to a report by Variety<\/em>.<\/p>\n

It was earlier reported that actor Damson Idris was on the shortlist, however, Pierre and Stephan James were two favourite actors<\/a> to play the role opposite Kyle Chandler who will play the iconic Hal Jordan in \u2018Lanterns.\u2019<\/p>\n

Produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros. and DC Studios, the eight-episode show is based on DC\u2019s \u201cGreen Lantern\u201d comics.<\/p>\n

Per the official logline, the series follows \u201cnew recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King co-wrote \u2018Lanterns\u2019 \u00a0while they also serve as executive producers along with James Hawes.<\/p>\n

Aaron Pierre\u2019s character was first introduced in 1971\u2019s \u201cGreen Lantern No. 87,\u201d 12 years after Jordan and the larger Green Lantern Corps mythos arrived on the scene.<\/p>\n

The Hollywood star shot to global fame following his role in the Netflix thriller \u2018Rebel Ridge,\u2019 directed by Jeremy Saulnier.<\/p>\n

The movie tells the story of Terry Richmond, played by Pierre, who uncovers a widespread conspiracy and corruption after a corrupt local police force seizes the money to bail his cousin out of prison.<\/p>\n

The film became an instant hit with critics who gave it a 95% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes from 40 reviews.<\/p>\n

The actor\u2019s other TV credits include playing Malcolm X in \u201cGenius: MLK\/X\u201d along with \u201cThe Underground Railroad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aaron Pierre has also acted in films such as \u201cFoe,\u201d \u201cBrother,\u201d and \u201cOld,\u201d and is also set to play Mufasa in Disney\u2019s upcoming \u201cLion King\u201d prequel film.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
