Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Wednesday highlighted the irony that, despite the growth of digital space, there are no robust mechanisms to authenticate and verify information.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a ceremony for the \u201cDigital Sahafat: Training Programme for Pakistani Journalists,\u201d he emphasized the severe damage caused by fake news, disinformation, and misinformation.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor a fragile economy like ours, the impact of fake news can inflict immeasurable loss,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

While discussing the pros and cons of digital media, Tarar also expressed concern over the lack of effective measures to counter the increasing use of digital platforms by terrorist organizations.<\/p>\n

He reiterated the government\u2019s commitment to curbing the menace of fake news, misinformation, and disinformation.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that vulnerable groups and minorities are often targeted through digital media as part of certain hidden agendas.<\/p>\n

Tarar also stressed that progress in the country is impossible without digital advancement.<\/p>\n

He urged that television channels and newspapers must have proper editorial systems, regular training programs, and well-equipped personnel to handle the flow and verification of information.<\/p>\n
