Chairman of the Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR), Altaf Hussain Wani, has called on the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Volker T\u00fcrek, to help secure the early release of the ailing Kashmiri leader, Farooq Ahmad Dar languishing in Tihar Jail in New Delhi.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a letter to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Wani highlighted Dar\u2019s deteriorating health condition, exacerbated by a significant drop in hemoglobin levels in June 2022. Despite repeated requests to jail authorities, including letters dated June 13, 2022, and December 29, 2022, no action has been taken to address his medical needs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe jail doctor had advised a thorough medical check-up for Dar, but the jail authorities ignored this advice,\u201d the letter stated. Dar has reportedly been vomiting blood intermittently, further emphasizing the urgency of his need for medical attention.<\/p>\n

Wani stressed the critical nature of Dar\u2019s health situation and appealed to the UN Commissioner for urgent intervention. \u201cDar\u2019s family has been demanding immediate medical help from a reputed institution and his immediate release on serious health grounds,\u201d he said, underscoring the necessity for proper medical tests and treatment in a hospital.<\/p>\n

Wani urged the UN Commissioner to use his influence to facilitate Dar\u2019s early release so he can receive the necessary medical treatment.
Farooq Ahmed Dar has been in detention for a total of 26 years, including continuous detention from June 1990 to October 2006, a year-long detention in 2008 during the land row agitation, and imprisonment in Tihar jail since July 24, 2017. Despite three Indian Supreme Court orders stating no case can be made against him, Dar remains imprisoned, implicated in a false money laundering case.\u2014KMS<\/p>\n
