I\u2019m sure it\u2019s just the beginning of bigger things to come for Afghanistan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ponting also commended Afghanistan\u2019s captain Rashid Khan, bowlers Naveen-ul-Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqi, and highlighted Rahmanullah Gurbaz as an exceptional talent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe thing is they\u2019ve been really smart \u2013 they\u2019ve identified conditions early,\u201d Ponting continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve been the linchpins, with their top-order batsmen and lead bowlers setting the tone throughout this tournament. With a few more skilled middle-order batsmen in the coming years, they\u2019re poised to build a formidable team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTen years ago, that was Afghanistan. 15 years ago, that was Bangladesh. 25 years ago, that was Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd look at where they are now. You really have to start somewhere.
