{"id":7823,"date":"2023-09-25T22:03:06","date_gmt":"2023-09-25T22:03:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/rupee-upward-trend-continues-closes-near-291-against-dollar-in-interbank\/"},"modified":"2023-09-25T22:03:06","modified_gmt":"2023-09-25T22:03:06","slug":"rupee-upward-trend-continues-closes-near-291-against-dollar-in-interbank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/rupee-upward-trend-continues-closes-near-291-against-dollar-in-interbank\/","title":{"rendered":"Rupee upward trend continues, closes near 291 against dollar in interbank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>The rupee increased by Rs0.9, or 0.31 per cent, against the US dollar in the interbank market on Monday, which an analyst said could be credited to the crackdown on the money market by the government.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1777784\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The dollar was trading for Rs290.86 in the interbank market at closing, according to the data published by the State Bank of Pakistan on social media platform X.<\/p>\n<p>The dollar had closed at Rs291.76 in the interbank market on Friday, extending the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1775648\">upward<\/a> trajectory that has continued since the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1777784\">army-backed<\/a> crackdown on the illegal trade of the dollar began earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, according to the Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan, the rupee gained 50 paisas against the greenback in the open market, with the foreign currency being traded at Rs293 compared to Friday\u2019s Rs293.5.<\/p>\n<p>Komal Mansoor, head of strategy at financial services firm Tresmark, said in approximately the past four weeks, the rupee had seen gains \u201ctriggered by the crackdown in open market followed by significant forward selling by exporters\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>She added that the greenback \u201cmay stabilise around 295 but may not sustain those levels for long\u201d. However, she warned that former finance minister Ishaq Dar \u201cmade the same mistake last year, who tried to beat the rupee down to 200. That effort was followed by [a] massive devaluation in January that wiped out all his efforts\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Zafar Paracha, general secretary of the Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan, said: \u201cToday was another good day for Pakistan\u2019s economy, the interbank [rate] has dropped by around Rs1 and the open market [rate] also fell by Rs2.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said \u201cgood results\u201d were being witnessed because of the crackdown since inflows were improving and remittances were being retrieved from the grey market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the coming time, you will see the dollar depreciate even more.
