\"\"\u201cGodzilla x Kong: The New Empire\u201d roared to the top of the North American box office on its debut weekend, pulverising competition with a huge $80 million haul in ticket sales, according to industry watcher Exhibitor Relations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe final numbers may change by Monday, but whatever they are, this is a fantastic opening,\u201d analyst David A Gross said, with ticket sales 2.5 times the average for a sequel to a monster flick.<\/p>\n

The enormous gorilla and reptilian giant set their differences aside in the movie, teaming up to save their species and humans in the latest MonsterVerse instalment.<\/p>\n

In second place with an estimated $15.7 million was \u201cGhostbusters: Frozen Empire,\u201d co-written by Jason Reitman, whose father Ivan Reitman directed the original \u201cGhostbusters\u201d in 1984.<\/p>\n

The film teams a new cadre of ghost catchers with the veterans as they take on a frightening deity trying to launch a new Ice Age.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Warner Bros.\u2019 sci-fi epic \u201cDune: Part Two,\u201d about war and survival on an inhospitable sand-covered planet, managed third place, taking in an estimated $11.1 million for the Friday-through-Sunday period.<\/p>\n

In fourth, dropping one spot from last weekend, was Universal and DreamWorks Animation\u2019s martial arts comedy \u201cKung Fu Panda 4,\u201d at $10.2 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cImmaculate,\u201d a new psychological horror film from indie studio Neon and starring Sydney Sweeney, placed fifth at $3.3 million.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the top 10 were:<\/p>\n

\u201cTillu Square\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cArthur the King\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLate Night with the Devil\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCrew\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cImaginary\u201d<\/p>\n
