The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday dismissed former information minister\u00a0Fawad Chaudhry\u2019s petition to nullify the contempt case against him by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).<\/p>\n

Chief Justice IHC Justice Aamir Farooq dismissed Fawad\u2019s plea while announcing\u00a0the reserved decision.<\/p>\n

The former minister had challenged ECP\u2019s action against him on two forums.<\/p>\n

Fawad had issued a verbal apology to the ECP in July when a four-member commission headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja was presiding over the contempt proceedings.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the ECP had\u00a0decided<\/a>\u00a0to indict Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry for their statements against the watchdog.<\/p>\n

The ECP had\u00a0initiated<\/a>\u00a0contempt proceedings against the two for issuing statements against the electoral body and the chief election commissioner.<\/p>\n

The commission had previously announced its decision to issue bailable arrest warrants for senior party leaders in January for failing to appear before the commission in contempt proceedings.<\/p>\n

Asad Umar has already apologised to the ECP in the contempt case. Umar stated that there was no intention in his statements regarding the ECP that should be seen as an insult.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
