{"id":74899,"date":"2024-03-24T14:57:52","date_gmt":"2024-03-24T14:57:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/after-imad-veteran-pacer-amir-takes-back-retirement-citing-positive-conversation-with-pcb\/"},"modified":"2024-03-24T14:57:52","modified_gmt":"2024-03-24T14:57:52","slug":"after-imad-veteran-pacer-amir-takes-back-retirement-citing-positive-conversation-with-pcb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/after-imad-veteran-pacer-amir-takes-back-retirement-citing-positive-conversation-with-pcb\/","title":{"rendered":"After Imad, veteran pacer Amir takes back retirement citing \u2018positive\u2019 conversation with PCB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>Fast bowler Mohammad Amir on Sunday said that he reconsidered his decision regarding international retirement after \u201cfew positive\u201d discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and announced his availability for the ICC T20 World Cup starting in June.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, the veteran pacer had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1596269\">announced<\/a> his retirement and said that he was being \u201cmentally tortured\u201d by the PCB management.<\/p>\n<p>The cricketer was referring to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1270100\">infamous<\/a> scandal in 2010 when he was implicated in allegations of spot-fixing for bowling two deliberate no-balls in return for payment as part of a betting scam in the Lord\u2019s Test against England.<\/p>\n<p>He was subsequently questioned by Scotland Yard along with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/671028\">teammates<\/a> Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt and pleaded guilty. He was convicted in November 2011 and banned from playing for five years.<\/p>\n<p>He had said that the current environment at the PCB and the way he was sidelined from the 35-member squad for the New Zealand tour was a \u201cwake-up call\u201d for him.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1496569\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Earlier, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1823511\/pcb-chief-announces-reorganised-selection-committee-comprising-7-members-with-equal-powers\">speaking<\/a> to the press in Lahore, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that the board \u2014 while pointing to Mohammad Yousuf and Wahab Riaz \u2014 will decide regarding the pacer\u2019s future.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on X, Amir said that the board respectfully told him that his services were needed and he could still play for the side.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter discussing with family and well-wishers, I declare that I am available to be considered for the upcoming t20WC [ICC T20 World Cup],\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want [to] do this for my country as it comes before my personal decisions,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDonning the green jersey and serving my country has always been, and will continue to be my greatest aspirations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fast bowler Mohammad Amir on Sunday said that he reconsidered his decision regarding international retirement after \u201cfew positive\u201d discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and announced his availability for the ICC T20 World Cup starting in June.
