{"id":71609,"date":"2024-03-15T19:25:05","date_gmt":"2024-03-15T19:25:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/pakistan-an-important-partner-us-ambassador-blome-says-in-first-post-election-meeting-with-pm-shehbaz\/"},"modified":"2024-03-15T19:25:05","modified_gmt":"2024-03-15T19:25:05","slug":"pakistan-an-important-partner-us-ambassador-blome-says-in-first-post-election-meeting-with-pm-shehbaz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/pakistan-an-important-partner-us-ambassador-blome-says-in-first-post-election-meeting-with-pm-shehbaz\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan an \u2018important partner\u2019, US Ambassador Blome says in first post-election meeting with PM Shehbaz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>United States Ambassador Donald Blome on Friday said Pakistan was considered an \u201cimportant partner\u201d and expressed hope in working with the newly elected government to continue building stronger bilateral ties.<\/p>\n<p>The development came in a meeting between Blome and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, their first after the latter was recently elected as the premier, according to a press release from the Prime Minister\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>Blome congratulated Shehbaz on his election who in turn expressed satisfaction with the current bilateral relations between the countries.<\/p>\n<p>The premier emphasised the need to maintain the positive momentum in relations by existing dialogue mechanisms, trade, investment, energy, health, defence, education, agriculture and climate change.<\/p>\n<p>Shehbaz said his government would focus on macroeconomic reforms to stabilise the economy and attract foreign investment.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1733859\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>He also highlighted the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council in fast-tracking foreign investments in priority sectors in Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>The pair also discussed several issues of bilateral and regional significance, including the situation in Gaza and the Red Sea, and developments in Afghanistan. The premier also \u201cforcefully\u201d raised Dr Aafia Siddiqui\u2019s issue in the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from Acting US Mission Spokesperson Thomas Montgomery said the discussion also included partnering with the government on regional security, US support for continued economic reforms with and through the International Monetary Fund and private sector-led economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>It pointed out that Blome also expressed US support for Pakistan\u2019s democracy and the \u201ckey role of an independent press\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"eu-ambassador-meets-new-finance-minister\" href=\"#eu-ambassador-meets-new-finance-minister\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>EU ambassador meets new finance minister<\/h2>\n<p>Meanwhile, a separate meeting occurred between the European Union Ambassador in Pakistan Dr Riina Kionka and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1819486\">newly appointed<\/a> Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.<\/p>\n<p>The minister appreciated the longstanding bilateral relations and development cooperation between the EU and Pakistan.
