Chairman Higher Education Commission of Pakistan Dr Mukhtar Ahmed has said that there is a need to promote research work in universities on such topics that can benefit the society.<\/p>\n

He was addressing a seminar on Rahmatul-lil-Aalameen Studies: Institutional Development and National Prospects organized by Punjab University Institute of Islamic Studies here. On this occasion, PU VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Chairman National Rahmatul-lil-Aalameen Authority Khurshid Ahmad Nadeem, Mr Toaha Qureshi, Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies Prof Dr Muhammad Hammad Lakhvi, faculty members and research scholars were present. In his address, Dr Mukhtar said that the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) changed society through his actions. He said, \u201cLove for the Prophet (PBUH) requires that we rise above ourselves and work for the betterment of the nation.\u201d PU VC Dr Khalid Mahmood said, \u201cWe have to do more research on every aspect of the Prophets (PBUH) life.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that only two universities in Pakistan are included in the world ranking of theology studies, one of which is PU. He said that PU Institute of Islamic Studies has produced eminent researchers and teachers who are serving all over the world. He said that a center of excellence is the need of the hour to promote modern research in religious studies. Prof Dr Muhammad Hammad Lakhvi gave a briefing on the ongoing educational and research projects in IIS. Thousands of people participated in the second day of Pakistan\u2019s largest three-day book fair organized by Punjab University administration, while 33,000 books were sold on the first day.<\/p>\n

On the second day, Chairman Higher Education Commission Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, PU VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, senior anchor Ajmal Jami, renowned columnists, journalists, lawyers, doctors, writers, poets, teachers from PU Gujranwala campus, students and people from all walks of life were present. In his address, Dr Ahmed Mukhtar said that after a long break, organizing an activity like a book fair in Punjab University is commendable, for which the VC Dr Khalid Mahmood and the administration deserve congratulations.<\/p>\n

He said that other institutions should follow the PU to organize book fairs. He said that books lead to improvement and positive changes in personality. He said, \u201cTo compete with the world, we have to take our students towards comprehensive studies instead of shortcuts.\u201d Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said that this activity in PU was stalled for many years.<\/p>\n

He said that PU organized a beautiful fair for almost nine years, restoring its traditions, which will continue in the future.<\/p>\n
