Pakistan denounces Israel\u2019s “mass starvation policy”; West condemns killings, Tel Aviv pressed for answers.<\/p>\n

\n

GAZA: Global condemnation flowed on Friday after Israeli forces in war-ravaged Gaza opened fire<\/a> on Palestinian civilians scrambling for food aid during a chaotic incident.<\/p>\n

This recent surge in violence escalated the Palestinian casualty figure in the nearly five-month conflict to over 30,000 deaths, with an additional 70,000 wounded, as reported by the Gaza Health Ministry.<\/p>\n

Gaza\u2019s health ministry called it a \u201cmassacre\u201d and said 112 people were killed and more than 750 others wounded.<\/p>\n

Although the Israeli military claimed a \u201cstampede\u201d occurred when thousands of desperate people surrounded a convoy of 38 aid trucks, leading to dozens of deaths and injuries, sources acknowledged that troops had opened fire on the crowd.<\/p>\n

Aerial images released by the Israeli army showed what it said were scores of people surrounding aid trucks in the city.<\/p>\n

Ali Awad Ashqir, who said he had gone to get some food for his starving family, told AFP<\/em> he had been waiting for two hours when trucks began to arrive.<\/p>\n

Pakistan also joined the chorus of condemnations, with FO Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch denouncing the attack as \u201ca blatant disregard for civility and international humanitarian law and Israel\u2019s deliberate and inhumane policy of mass starvation.\u201d<\/p>\n

She reiterated Pakistan\u2019s demand for an immediate ceasefire, the lifting of the cruel siege, and the unobstructed delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza\u2019s populace.<\/p>\n

Calls for probe<\/strong><\/p>\n

The EU\u2019s two top chiefs said Friday they were \u201cshocked\u201d and \u201cdeeply disturbed\u201d by the deaths and demanded an investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cShocked and repulsed by yesterday\u2019s killing of innocent civilians in Gaza while desperately waiting for humanitarian aid,\u201d European Council President Charles Michel posted on X.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said she was \u201cdeeply disturbed by images from Gaza\u201d and added that \u201cevery effort must be made to investigate what happened\u201d.<\/p>\n

The White House also called the deaths \u201ctremendously alarming\u201d.<\/p>\n

State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters the United States was \u201curgently seeking additional information on exactly what took place\u201d.<\/p>\n

Washington will be monitoring an upcoming investigation closely and \u201cpressing for answers\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on Friday also asked Israel to conduct a thorough investigation into the deaths.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Israeli army must fully investigate how the mass panic and shooting could have happened,\u201d Baerbock wrote on X, formerly Twitter, also calling for a \u201chumanitarian ceasefire\u201d.<\/p>\n

France, too, called for an independent inquiry into the deaths during aid delivery, Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne said Friday.<\/p>\n

China said on Friday it \u201cstrongly condemns\u201d the killing of scores of Palestinians during an aid delivery in the northern Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n

\u201cChina is shocked by this incident and strongly condemns it,\u201d foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said.<\/p>\n

Turkiye accused Israel of committing \u201canother crime against humanity\u201d and condemning Gazans to \u201cfamine\u201d as civilians scavenge for dwindling supplies of food.<\/p>\n

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani called for an \u201cimmediate ceasefire\u201d in Gaza and urged Israel to protect the Palestinian population after the \u201ctragic deaths\u201d.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also expressed her \u201cdeep dismay and concern\u201d over the violence.<\/p>\n

Saudi Arabia\u2019s foreign ministry condemned the deaths and reiterated \u201cthe need to reach an immediate ceasefire\u201d.<\/p>\n
