LAHORE \u2013\u00a0 Outgoing Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibtain Khan on Friday administered oath to newly elected members of the provincial assembly.<\/p>\n

Maryam Nawaz, the PML-N nominee for Punjab chief minister, who was spotted in the first row of the lawmakers, also took oath as member of the provincial assembly.<\/p>\n

The assembly session started two hours late from the schedule time 10:00 am.<\/p>\n

After the oath taking ceremony, the election of the speaker and the deputy speaker will be conducted on Saturday (tomorrow)<\/p>\n

The speaker congratulated the newly members for taking oath and prayed for their positive role for the service of Punjab and its people.<\/p>\n

He mentioned that the collection and scrutiny of nomination papers for speaker and deputy speaker would take place today.<\/p>\n

This marked the inaugural provincial assembly session subsequent to the general elections held on February 8, where the newly-elected members took their oaths.<\/p>\n

At the onset of the belated session, members from various political parties including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) engaged in slogan-chanting and exchanged heated remarks.<\/p>\n

According to the reports, Imtiaz Sheikh reached there secretely in a vehicle with tinted windows. He was sitting on the rear seat to avoid any trouble while entering the premises.<\/p>\n

The SIC, currently comprising 97 members within the premises, alleged that their entry into the assembly was being obstructed.<\/p>\n
