{"id":62772,"date":"2024-02-21T14:54:10","date_gmt":"2024-02-21T14:54:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/pti-wants-ecp-chiefs-scalp-over-post-poll-crisis\/"},"modified":"2024-02-21T14:54:10","modified_gmt":"2024-02-21T14:54:10","slug":"pti-wants-ecp-chiefs-scalp-over-post-poll-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/pti-wants-ecp-chiefs-scalp-over-post-poll-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"PTI wants ECP chief\u2019s scalp over post-poll crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>ISLAMABAD: PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja as he blamed the \u201ccontroversial\u201d  official for the post-poll fiasco.<\/p>\n<p>In a media talk following his meeting with PTI ex-chairman Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, Barrister Gohar Khan said the Election Commission of Pakistan chief was \u201cthe primary person\u201d for the ongoing political crisis in the country and had also become a controversial figure in the wake of allegations against the election watchdog.<\/p>\n<p>According to the PTI leader, the ECP \u201cbadly failed\u201d to fulfil its responsibility. He said that it was the responsibility of the ECP to compile results as per Form 45.<\/p>\n<p>The PTI leader also referred to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1814959\">unsubstantiated allegations<\/a> made by the former Rawalpindi commissioner, saying he feared the ex-commissioner\u2019s life was under threat and sought protection for him.<\/p>\n<p>It may be noted Liaquat Ali Chattha, who served as the commissioner in Rawalpindi, had accused the ECP chief and Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa of rigging in the elections. The allegations were, however, denied by the CJP and the CEC.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"blockquote-level-1\">\n<p>Barrister Gohar says commission \u2018badly failed\u2019 to fulfil its responsibility; party expresses concern over Bushra\u2019s health<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mr Gohar said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1815639\">agreement<\/a> with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) had been finalised and soon an application would be filed to get reserved seats from the SIC platform. He hoped that the ECP would not deprive the PTI of its reserved seats.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1815900\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe have sent a list of 50 MNAs to the ECP and we hope that the reserved seats will be allocated accordingly,\u201d he said. A day earlier, the PTI had announced its merger with the SIC to claim its share of reserved seats in all provinces and the National Assembly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Threats to Bushra\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the PTI issued a statement claiming the life of former first lady Bushra Bibi was in danger. Bushra Bibi, who had been kept in \u201csolitary confinement\u201d at her Banigala residence \u2014 which was declared a sub-jail after her conviction \u2014 has reportedly been suffering from \u201csevere pain for the last six days\u201d after consuming allegedly \u201csubstandard, harmful and poisonous food\u201d, the PTI claimed.<\/p>\n<p>The PTI spokesperson called upon the court and prison authorities to take \u201cmuch-needed steps to ensure the protection of health and life of the former first lady\u201d.
