China on Monday congratulated Pakistan for holding general elections for the national and provincial assemblies in a steady and smooth manner, hoping that the political parties in the country would work together to form a new government after the vote.<\/p>\n

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that the Chinese side noted that the Pakistani election was generally steady and smooth and that China respected the choice of the Pakistani people.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe noted that general elections in Pakistan were held in a generally steady and smooth manner, and we offer our congratulations,\u201d Mao told her regular briefing. \u201cAs a close and friendly neighbour, China fully respects the choices of the Pakistani people and sincerely hopes that relevant parties of Pakistan will work together to uphold political solidarity and social stability after the elections.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mao resumed the press briefings after a 10-day pause in the wake of the Chinese New Year and Spring Festival holidays.<\/p>\n

She expressed the hope that both sides would build on their traditional friendship and deepen practical cooperation in various areas.<\/p>\n

In response to a question about the delay in forming a government in Pakistan, the spokesperson stated: \u201cAs to the situation you mentioned, we believe the relevant parties in Pakistan can stick to solidarity and work together to solve relevant issues.\u201d<\/p>\n
