When trading ended, it had fallen further, cumulatively by 1,000.85 points (1.64 per cent), closing at 60,019.20 points.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, the bears <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1814534\/stocks-lose-1133-points-on-instability-fears\">took over the trading floor<\/a> after the PTI <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1814620\/clarity-on-coalitions-power-sharing-formula-likely-today\">nominated candidates<\/a> for prime minister and Punjab chief minister and started contacts with different parties for the formation of coalition governments.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the PPP\u2019s reluctance to join PML-N leader Shehbaz Sharif\u2019s cabinet despite announcing support to elect him as prime minister drew strong reactions from the PML-N camp, deepening political uncertainty due to which the benchmark index came under selling pressure wiping out overnight gains.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1814620\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Speaking to <em>Dawn.com<\/em>, Mohammed Sohail, chief executive of Topline Securities, attributed today\u2019s bearish momentum to \u201cuncertainty over the formation of a new coalition\u201d which forced leveraged players to trim their position.<\/p>\n<p>Awais Ashraf,  director of research at Akseer Research, said that the expected formation of a \u201cweak coalition government in the Centre\u201d and protest calls by the PTI and other parties had raised questions regarding the implementation of tough reforms needed for economic recovery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSubsequently, state-owned entities remained under pressure and dragged the KSE-100 index into negative territory.\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Yousuf M. Farooq, director of research at Chase Securities, noted that the Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC) and Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) experienced selling pressure due to a delay in the circular debt resolution, in addition to political uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p>It should be mentioned that the interim government on Thursday allowed another 45 per cent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1814316\/caretakers-oblige-imf-with-45pc-gas-price-hike\">increase<\/a> in natural gas prices to oblige the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and meet revenue requirement of the gas utilities targeted for the current year.<\/p>\n<p>Farooq further said that the gas price hike made market participants concerned about inflationary pressure.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shares at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) traded in the red on Friday, with stocks plunging by more than 1,000 points by day\u2019s end as analysts attributed the losses to continued uncertainty on the political front.
