{"id":59212,"date":"2024-02-12T13:21:04","date_gmt":"2024-02-12T13:21:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/pml-n-floats-idea-of-participatory-coalition\/"},"modified":"2024-02-12T13:21:04","modified_gmt":"2024-02-12T13:21:04","slug":"pml-n-floats-idea-of-participatory-coalition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/pml-n-floats-idea-of-participatory-coalition\/","title":{"rendered":"PML-N floats idea of \u2018participatory coalition\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>LAHORE: After a poor showing in the Feb 8 polls, the PML-N, which has about 75 seats in the National Assembly, has pitched the idea of a \u2018participatory coalition government\u2019, saying not a single political party had secured the mandate to form a government in the Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Former law minister Azam Nazeer Tarar termed this scenario \u2018Hobson\u2019s choice\u2019 and said not a single political party had secured a majority in the National Assembly, insisting that elections were \u201cfair\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The PML-N leader was talking to the media after a meeting of the party\u2019s top brass at Jati Umra in which consultations were held regarding the future course of action. It will be a participatory coalition government,\u201d he said, adding that it was in \u201cthe largest interest of the country that all should join hands\u201d to form the federal government.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"blockquote-level-1\">\n<p>Azam Tarar says govt formation not possible without PML-N; claims party in comfortable position to form Punjab govt<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Other parliamentary parties would also be consulted before taking a final decision on the federal set-up, he added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Govt in Punjab<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr Tarar said that the PML-N had authorised Nawaz Sharif to take a final decision in this regard and hoped that the PML-N would form a strong setup in the province.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed that the numerical strength of the PML-N in the Punjab Assembly had reached 155 seats as the party had won 137 seats in the Feb 8 vote, while it had left open some constituencies for other parties, whose elected members \u201cwould definitely side\u201d with the PML-N.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1813492\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>He claimed at least two dozen independents emerged victorious in the provincial vote and many of them were joining the PML-N.<\/p>\n<p>The former minister regretted that attempts were being made to cast doubts on the election results, while the \u201cwhole nation saw how [fair] the elections\u201d had been held on Feb 8.<\/p>\n<p>Without naming the PTI, he said only one party, which \u201csucceeded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa\u201d, had raised objections to the election results. \u201cWe too have reservations about the KP results but we have accepted their mandate.
