{"id":58482,"date":"2024-02-10T13:02:05","date_gmt":"2024-02-10T13:02:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/nawaz-spells-out-plan-for-coalition-govt-on-pdm-pattern\/"},"modified":"2024-02-10T13:02:05","modified_gmt":"2024-02-10T13:02:05","slug":"nawaz-spells-out-plan-for-coalition-govt-on-pdm-pattern","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/nawaz-spells-out-plan-for-coalition-govt-on-pdm-pattern\/","title":{"rendered":"Nawaz spells out plan for coalition govt \u2018on PDM pattern\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>LAHORE: PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif on Friday made a so-called \u2018victory speech\u2019 and annou\u00adnced forming a coalition government on the previous PDM pattern to steer the country out of crises.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sharif hinted at joining hands with the PPP, JUI-F, MQM, PML-Q and IPP to forge a PDM (Pakistan Democratic Move\u00adment) style alliance, but did not make any claim to reach out to the PTI-backed independent candidates to take them on board.<\/p>\n<p>His relative, Ishaq Dar, however claimed that the party had the intention to have the independents onboard to form the government both in the Centre and Punjab.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1812913\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Interestingly, Nawaz Sharif declared the PML-N the \u2018single largest party\u2019 that emerged in the Centre and Punjab in the polls. He along with Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz made the so-cal\u00adled victory speech at the party headquarters in Model Town at the time when the Election Com\u00admission of Pakistan (ECP) decla\u00adred that the PML-N had won only 64 national assembly seats of total 265 on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sharif mandated his younger brother, Shehbaz Sharif, to immediately establish contacts with the PPP\u2019s Asif Ali Zardari, the JUI-F\u2019s Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the MQM\u2019s Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui to forge an alliance in the Centre.<\/p>\n<p>However, he did not name any PTI\u2019s leader in this regard. Before Nawaz Sharif\u2019s speech, the PML-N\u2019s Atta Tarar had lashed out at PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, saying he had told him (Bilawal) to pack up as a Nawaz\u2019 worker would defeat him. Tarar has clinched victory against Bilawal in NA-127.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"blockquote-level-1\">\n<p>Asks Shehbaz to contact PPP, JUI-F, MQM for alliance; Abbasi advises against forming govt, says 60-seat victory doesn\u2019t suit Nawaz<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Without naming PTI founder leader Imran Khan, Nawaz said: \u201cSome people are in a mood to fight but Pakistan cannot afford this as it needs stability for at least 10 years. This is not our responsibility alone as everyone, including the institutions, should play its role for the betterment of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Justifying his victory speech a day after the polls, Nawaz said he wanted to make the speech on Thursday night but by that time only 10 to 12pc results were announced.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday night, Mr Sharif had left for Jati Umra amid reports of his party\u2019s \u2018poor performance\u2019 in its heartland of Punjab.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abbasi\u2019s skepticism<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <em>Dawn<\/em> in London a day after polling, former PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said it would be bad advice for Nawaz Sharif to form a government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis 60-seat victory doesn\u2019t suit the struggle of <em>Mian Sahib<\/em> or his democratic credentials of the last so many years. He will not be able to run a government without moral authority. This \u2018victory\u2019 doesn\u2019t suit him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Abbasi said the results had changed overnight in favour of the PML-N and it was a repeat of what had happened to his (PML-N) party in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is why I stayed away from this election. I realized six months ago that the PML-N would come to power under these circumstances. I don\u2019t agree with keeping Imran Khan out of politics, even if I don\u2019t agree with his politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former prime minister was all praise for the PTI-backed independents, saying they had pulled off a stunning upset, given that \u201cthey were not allowed to campaign and there was virtually no sign of them in most constituencies\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy friends in the PML-N in the Rawalpindi division admitted on Friday night that the election has slipped out of their hands.
