{"id":58084,"date":"2024-02-09T12:51:05","date_gmt":"2024-02-09T12:51:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/electoral-report-card-which-high-profile-politicians-scored-high-who-couldnt-keep-up\/"},"modified":"2024-02-09T12:51:05","modified_gmt":"2024-02-09T12:51:05","slug":"electoral-report-card-which-high-profile-politicians-scored-high-who-couldnt-keep-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/electoral-report-card-which-high-profile-politicians-scored-high-who-couldnt-keep-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Electoral report card: Which high-profile politicians scored high, who couldn\u2019t keep up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p>A look at some of the key political players and how they&#8217;ve fared in the elections where predictions are in a stand-off with surprises.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>All of Pakistan has its eyes on only one thing: the election 2024 result board where arch rivals PML-N and PTI with its independent candidates are battling it out, with PPP a close third (as of 4pm, Feb 9).<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"block\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/elections-2024\/\"><iframe onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative; pointer-events:none\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/elections-2024\/animation\/\"><\/iframe><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While clarity has to emerge on how the possibly historic government will be formed, <em>Dawn.com<\/em> has rounded up some of the key players and how they\u2019ve fared in the elections where predictions are in a stand-off with surprises.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"maryam-nawaz-wins-na-119-lahore\" href=\"#maryam-nawaz-wins-na-119-lahore\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Maryam Nawaz wins NA-119, Lahore<\/h2>\n<p>PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz won her first-ever National Assembly seat with 83,855 votes, while PTI-backed Shehzad Farooq came in second with 68,376 votes.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"elder-sharif-in-loss-shehbaz-makes-gains\" href=\"#elder-sharif-in-loss-shehbaz-makes-gains\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Elder Sharif in loss, Shehbaz makes gains<\/h2>\n<p>Maryam\u2019s uncle, former prime minister and PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif, wasn\u2019t far behind; he easily won the NA-123 seat from Lahore with 63,953 votes, while PTI-backed Afzal Azeem Pahat was the runner-up with 48,486 votes.<\/p>\n<p>Shehbaz also won the PP-158 seat in Lahore with 38,642 votes with PTI-backed Yousuf Ali as the runner-up with 23,847 votes.<\/p>\n<p>His elder brother Nawaz Sharif, who has been famously vying for a fourth term as prime minister, lost Mansehra\u2019s NA-15. He managed 80,382 votes while PTI-backed Shahzada Mohammad Gustasif Khan claimed victory with 105,249 votes.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"hamza-shehbaz-wins-na-118-lahore\" href=\"#hamza-shehbaz-wins-na-118-lahore\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Hamza Shehbaz wins NA-118, Lahore<\/h2>\n<p>Like father like son, PML-N\u2019s Hamza Shehbaz added to the Sharif family\u2019s wins in Lahore by edging out PTI-backed Aliya Hamza Malik with 105,960 votes to her 100,803 votes.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"gohar-ali-khan-wins-na-10-buner\" href=\"#gohar-ali-khan-wins-na-10-buner\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Gohar Ali Khan wins NA-10, Buner<\/h2>\n<p>PTI leader, and also currently the fact of the party with its founder behind bars, Gohar Ali Khan cruised to victory in his hometown Buner with 110,023 votes. ANP\u2019s Abdul Rauf came second with 30,302 votes.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"asad-qaiser-wins-na-19-swabi\" href=\"#asad-qaiser-wins-na-19-swabi\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Asad Qaiser wins NA-19, Swabi<\/h2>\n<p>Asad Qaiser, former National Assembly speaker and another prominent face from PTI,   won with 115,635 votes, while JUI-F\u2019s Fazal Ali came second with 45,567 votes.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"omar-ayub-khan-wins-na-18-haripur\" href=\"#omar-ayub-khan-wins-na-18-haripur\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Omar Ayub Khan wins NA-18, Haripur<\/h2>\n<p>Omar Ayub Khan clinched his NA seat with 192,984 votes while PML-N\u2019s Babar Nawaz Khan came in second with 112,389 votes.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"sirajul-haq-loses-na-6-lower-dir-i\" href=\"#sirajul-haq-loses-na-6-lower-dir-i\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Sirajul Haq loses NA-6, Lower Dir I<\/h2>\n<p>Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq took a major loss in NA-6, Lower Dir I with 56,538 votes against PTI-backed Muhammad Bashir Khan, who clinched the seat with 81,060 votes.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"noor-alam-khan-wins-na-28-peshawar-i\" href=\"#noor-alam-khan-wins-na-28-peshawar-i\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Noor Alam Khan wins NA-28, Peshawar I<\/h2>\n<p>Just weeks after joining JUI-F, former PTI leader Noor Alam Khan had a major win in NA-28 Peshawar I with 138,389 votes.  PTI-backed Sajid Nawaz Khan came in second with 65,119 votes.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"fazlur-rehman-loses-na-44-di-khan\" href=\"#fazlur-rehman-loses-na-44-di-khan\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Fazlur Rehman loses NA-44, DI Khan<\/h2>\n<p>PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur thrashed the JUI-F chief with 93,443 votes to 59,922 votes.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"bilawal-bhutto-zardari-wins-na-196-qamber-shahdkot\" href=\"#bilawal-bhutto-zardari-wins-na-196-qamber-shahdkot\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari wins NA-196, Qamber Shahdkot<\/h2>\n<p>PPP maintained its stronghold in Sindh as party leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari won with a landslide 85,370 votes. Nasir Mehmood from JUI-P came in second with 34,449 votes.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"asif-ali-zardari-wins-na-207-shaheed-benazirabad\" href=\"#asif-ali-zardari-wins-na-207-shaheed-benazirabad\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Asif Ali Zardari wins NA-207, Shaheed Benazirabad<\/h2>\n<p>As expected, former president Asif Ali Zardari had a landslide win in Shaheed Benazirabad with 146,989 votes, while Sardar Sher Muhammad Rind Baloch, a PTI-backed independent candidate, was the runner-up with 51,916 votes.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"pervez-khattak-loses-na-33-nowshera\" href=\"#pervez-khattak-loses-na-33-nowshera\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Pervez Khattak loses NA-33, Nowshera<\/h2>\n<p>PTI-Parliamentarians founder Pervez Khattak (ex-PTI member who served as the party\u2019s KP chief minister earlier) lost Nowshera\u2019s NA-33 seat by a massive 66,000-vote margin to Syed Shah Ahad Ali Shah, a PTI-backed independent candidate. According to the ECP\u2019s provisional results, Shah bagged 93,429 votes while the former KP chief won 26,574 votes.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"aimal-wali-khan-loses-na-25-charsadda-ii\" href=\"#aimal-wali-khan-loses-na-25-charsadda-ii\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Aimal Wali Khan loses NA-25, Charsadda II<\/h2>\n<p>ANP leader Aimal Wali Khan took a major loss in NA-25 Charsadda II with 67,876 votes while PTI-backed Fazal Muhammad Khan took the win with 100,713 votes.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"akhtar-mengal-wins-na-261-from-balochistan-surab-kalat-mastung\" href=\"#akhtar-mengal-wins-na-261-from-balochistan-surab-kalat-mastung\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Akhtar Mengal wins NA-261 from Balochistan (Surab-Kalat-Mastung)<\/h2>\n<p>Former Chief Minister of Balochistan won his seat with 3,404 votes; PPP\u2019s Sardar Sanaullah Zehri came in second with 2,871 votes.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"abdul-hakeem-baloch-wins-na-231-karachi\" href=\"#abdul-hakeem-baloch-wins-na-231-karachi\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"\/>Abdul Hakeem Baloch wins NA-231, Karachi<\/h2>\n<p>A close battle in NA-231 (Malir III) saw PPP\u2019s Abdul Hakeem Baloch edge win by a slim margin against PTI-backed Khalid Mahmood Ali, with 43,634 votes to 43,245.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><em><strong>Keep checking back for more key players as ECP releases results.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr\/><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A look at some of the key political players and how they&#8217;ve fared in the elections where predictions are in a stand-off with surprises.
