{"id":57554,"date":"2024-02-08T00:38:05","date_gmt":"2024-02-08T00:38:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/bilawals-candidature-challenged-in-sc\/"},"modified":"2024-02-08T00:38:05","modified_gmt":"2024-02-08T00:38:05","slug":"bilawals-candidature-challenged-in-sc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/bilawals-candidature-challenged-in-sc\/","title":{"rendered":"Bilawal\u2019s candidature challenged in SC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court was on Tuesday requested to take notice of alleged violation by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari of the country\u2019s election law since he is member of two registered political parties.<\/p>\n<p>Advocate Shah Mohammad Zaman moved the apex court after his similar petition was rejected by the Sindh High Court\u2019s Larkana circuit branch.<\/p>\n<p>The petition filed in the apex court pointed out that Mr Bhutto-Zardari is chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party whose electoral symbol is \u2018sword\u2019, but contesting the Feb 8 general elections as a candidate of the PPP-Parliamentarians with the allotted symbol of \u2018arrow\u2019.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1410852\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The petition highlighted that Mr Bhutto-Zardari is contesting the elections from three constituencies of the National Assembly \u2014 NA-127 Lahore, NA-194 Larkana-I, and NA-196 Qambar, Sindh.<\/p>\n<p>The petition argued that Section 205 of the Elections Act 2017 clearly put a bar on such a practice by suggesting suspension of membership in accordance with the procedure provided in the constitution of the political party.<\/p>\n<p>Till date, it contended, neither the membership of Mr Bhutto-Zardari has been suspended nor did he resign as chairman of the PPP, but is contesting the election as a candidate of the PPP-Parliamentarians, which is a clear violation of Section 203 of the Elections Act.<\/p>\n<p>The petitioner said he filed the petition for the allotment of election symbol of \u2018arrow\u2019 allotted to the PPPP.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Mr Bhutto-Zardari also contested the election in 2018 with the election symbol of \u2018arrow\u2019 allotted to the PPPP when he was chairman of the PPP with the allotted symbol of \u2018sword\u2019 and was elected as member of the National Assembly from the Larkana constituency.<\/p>\n<p><em>Published in Dawn, February 7th, 2024<\/em><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><em>To find your constituency and location of your polling booth, SMS your NIC number (no spaces) to 8300.
