India said on Tuesday it had expelled a Canadian diplomat with five days\u2019 notice to leave the country, just hours after Ottawa expelled<\/a> the South Asian nation\u2019s top intelligence agent and accused it of a role in the murder<\/a> of a Sikh separatist leader.<\/p>\n The development was the latest in an escalating row between the two nations, with Canada saying on Monday it was \u201cactively pursuing credible allegations\u201d linking Indian government agents to the murder in British Columbia in June.<\/p>\n The Canadian high commissioner, or ambassador, in New Delhi had been summoned and told of the expulsion decision, India\u2019s foreign ministry said in a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThe decision reflects the government of India\u2019s growing concern at the interference of Canadian diplomats in our internal matters and their involvement in anti-India activities,\u201d the ministry added.<\/p>\n \u201cThe concerned diplomat has been asked to leave India within the next five days.\u201d<\/p>\n Earlier on Tuesday, India dismissed<\/a> the Canadian accusation as \u201cabsurd and motivated\u201d and urged it instead to take legal action against anti-Indian elements operating from its soil.<\/p>\n Indian retaliation came after Canada said on Monday that it was \u201cactively pursuing credible allegations\u201d linking Indian government agents to the murder of a Sikh separatist leader in British Columbia in June.<\/p>\n Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in an emergency statement to the House of Commons that any involvement of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen was \u201can unacceptable violation of our sovereignty\u201d.<\/p>\nCanada expels Indian envoy<\/h2>\n
