{"id":56460,"date":"2024-02-05T05:56:06","date_gmt":"2024-02-05T05:56:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/two-returning-officers-point-out-faults-in-election-management-system\/"},"modified":"2024-02-05T05:56:06","modified_gmt":"2024-02-05T05:56:06","slug":"two-returning-officers-point-out-faults-in-election-management-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/two-returning-officers-point-out-faults-in-election-management-system\/","title":{"rendered":"Two returning officers point out faults in Election Management System"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>ISLAMABAD \/ LARKANA: Two election officials have pointed out faults in the Election Management System (EMS), which will be deployed to collect and tabulate the results of February 8 general polls.<\/p>\n<p>The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is set to use the system after claiming that the countrywide test run of EMS has been \u201ca success\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Abdul Qadir Mashori, the Qambar assistant commissioner (AC), and RO for National Assembly seat NA-197 (Qambar-Shahdadkot-II), and Usman Khaskheli, the Bakrani AC and RO for PS-12 (Larkana-III) seat of Sindh Assembly, have written letters to their superiors, conveying almost identical issues regarding the EMS.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1808994\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Mr Mashori\u2019s letter, which emerged on Sunday, was written to the Qambar-Shahdadkot district returning officer on Feb 3.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"blockquote-level-1\">\n<p>Qambar AC says issues with system were later rectified<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When contacted, Mr Mashori told <em>Dawn<\/em> that the issues he had pointed out were later resolved and that he had conveyed the same in a follow-up letter.<\/p>\n<p>Sources have confirmed that Mr Khaskheli also wrote to the Larkana DRO a letter, a copy of which is available with <em>Dawn<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The official couldn\u2019t be reached for his version despite repeated attempts to contact him on his mobile phone.<\/p>\n<p>In his letter, Mr Mashori stated that the data regarding duties assigned to polling officials were uploaded to the EMS, which was later \u201cfound missing\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis weakness of [the] system has created many issues and also raises [a] question mark on the reliability and validity of the software.\u201d The official expressed apprehension that either the system was an \u201cutter failure\u201d or was being \u201ccontrolled\u201d by someone.<\/p>\n<p>The RO claimed that the reservations over the system have been \u201cverbally conveyed\u201d to the ECP and Nadra officials, but these complaints have not been rectified, with both bodies citing a \u201ctechnical glitch\u201d causing the issues.<\/p>\n<p><em>Published in Dawn, February 5th, 2024<\/em><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><em>To find your constituency and location of your polling booth, SMS your NIC number (no spaces) to 8300.
