Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday condemned an attack on a mosque in the city of Mississauga in Ontario province, which is being probed as a hate crime and which rights advocates described as being part of a rise in Islamophobia.<\/p>\n
Police said someone threw two rocks through the window of a Mississauga mosque on Sunday, on the eve of the anniversary of a mosque attack in Quebec City that killed<\/a> six people in 2017.<\/p>\n CBC News<\/em> said no one was injured in the incident.<\/p>\n \u201cIslamophobia has no place in any of our communities,\u201d Trudeau said on X, formerly called Twitter.<\/p>\n \u201cThe attack against a Mississauga mosque earlier this week on the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia is cowardly, disturbing, and unacceptable. I condemn it in the strongest terms possible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n The National Council of Canadian Muslims said the attack was \u201cpart of an alarming rise in Islamophobic hate across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n In November, authorities in Toronto said the number of antisemitic and anti-Muslim hate crimes in Canada\u2019s largest city had spiked significantly<\/a> since the start of Israel\u2019s military offensive in Gaza.<\/p>\n
