KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday imposed a penalty on the PTI-backed independent candidate, Khurram Sher Zaman, over a code of conduct (CoC) violation in Karachi, ARY News reported.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Election Commission\u2019s Monitoring Committee has issued a notice and slapped Khurram Sher Zaman with a fine of Rs 50,000 for holding a rally without permission from the relevant institutions in Karachi.<\/p>\n

In the notice, the monitoring committee emphasized the sudden clash that occurred between the police and PTI supporters during the rally.<\/p>\n

The monitoring committee also forwarded a copy of the report to the Election Commission Islamabad.<\/p>\n

Earlier, PTI issued a show cause notice to Khurram Sher Zaman<\/a>, contesting the general election 2024 as PTI candidate from the constituency NA-241.<\/p>\n

The PTI has issued a show cause notice to Khurram Sher Zaman after he convened PTI candidates on January 28 for a rally in constituency NA-241 near Teen Talwar, Clifton but failed to appear at the location himself.<\/p>\n

The notice accused him of misusing the name of the PTI founder to take out a rally in Clifton, which led to an FIR against 4500 workers of PTI.<\/p>\n

In the show cause notice the political party announced to initiate an inquiry against Khurram Sher Zaman for sabotaging the election campaign in Karachi.<\/p>\n

It is pertinent to mention here that dozens of PTI workers who took out rallies and processions were arrested after a clash with police on Sunday in Karachi\u2019s Teen Talwar area.<\/p>\n

Over 20 PTI workers were arrested after clashing with police at the Teen Talwar monument.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the police officials stated that no permission was sought by the party to hold its rally as required by the ECP\u2019s code of conduct.<\/p>\n

As per Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Asad Raza, at least seven officers, including Boat Basin SHO, suffered injuries after PTI workers attacked the police.<\/p>\n

Later, the police registered a case against PTI workers and leaders under terror charges for \u201cresorting to vandalism\u201d during an \u201cunlawful assembly\u201d at Teen Talwar.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile today, the Sindh High Court (SHC) granted pre-arrest bail to six PTI leaders and ordered them to submit Rs30,000.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
