A Pakistani peacekeeper was martyred when a convoy was ambushed in Abyei \u2014 a disputed area between Sudan and South Sudan \u2014 while escorting two local patients to a hospital, the military said in a statement on Monday.<\/p>\n

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistani peacekeepers responded effectively to the attack and forced the militants to retreat.<\/p>\n

However, it added\u00a0that during the exchange of fire, resident of Badin Sepoy Muhammad Tariq embraced martyrdom while four individuals including two officers were injured.<\/p>\n

ISPR stated that Pakistan’s peacekeeping contingents have always distinguished themselves by virtue of their professionalism and devotion to duty.<\/p>\n

To date, it added, 181 Pakistani peacekeepers have laid their lives while serving the cause of peace around the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cPakistan remains committed to its role as a responsible member of the international community and will continue to contribute towards global peace and stability under the auspices of the United Nations,\u201d ISPR further said.<\/p>\n
