Washington: Billionaires and social media business rivals Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk threw new online jabs at each other on Sunday, with the Meta founder declaring the owner of X \u2014 formerly known as Twitter \u2014 was not treating a proposed charity cage match seriously. \u201cI think we can all agree Elon isn\u2019t serious and it\u2019s time to move on,\u201d Zucker-berg wrote on his Threads social platform.
\u201cI offered a real date [\u2026] Elon won\u2019t confirm a date, then says he needs sur-gery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead,\u201d he said.
Musk quickly responded on X, the platform he bought last year that was previ-ously called Twitter. \u201cZuck is a chicken,\u201d Musk posted. The Tesla boss said he would head to Silicon Valley on Monday: \u201cCan\u2019t wait to bang on his door tomorrow.\u201d
When an X user suggested Zuckerberg was getting cold feet about the match, Musk referred to a popular US fast food chain known for its chicken offerings.
\u201cHe can\u2019t eat at Chick-fil-A because that would be cannibalism,\u201d Musk posted.
The two tech titans have gone back and forth on social media about fighting each other in a much-hyped charity match.
Musk said on Friday the fight would take place in Italy, as authorities there confirmed talks about hosting a \u201cgreat charity event.\u201d
\u201cI spoke to the prime minister of Italy and the minister of culture,\u201d Musk wrote, referring to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. \u201cThey have agreed on an epic location,\u201d he said.
In response, Zuckerberg posted a photo of himself shirtless and pinning down an opponent in his \u201cbackyard octagon.\u201d
A martial arts enthusiast who has taken part in jiujitsu competitions, Zucker-berg said, \u201cI love this sport and I\u2019ve been ready to fight since the day Elon chal-lenged me.\u201d
\u201cIf he ever agrees on an actual date, you\u2019ll hear it from me. Until then, please assume anything he says has not been agreed on.\u201d
Italian Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano confirmed speaking to Musk about \u201chow to organise a great charity event evoking history\u201d but said any match \u201cwill not be held in Rome.\u201d
Sangiuliano said any event with Musk would raise \u201ca huge sum, many millions of euros, (that) will be donated to two important Italian pediatric hospitals.\u201d
The two tech tycoons, who have occasionally jousted from afar, became direct competitors after Zuckerberg\u2019s Meta launched its Twitter-like Threads plat-form in early July.
Musk noted on Friday that he may need to undergo \u201cminor surgery\u201d to resolve a \u201cproblem with my right shoulder blade rubbing against my ribs.\u201d \u201cRecovery will only take a few months,\u201d he added.
The world\u2019s richest person has a titanium plate holding two vertebrae together but said Friday it is currently \u201cnot an issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
