Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor here Sunday said that our corrupt and outdated policing system is the main hurdle to over development as this system instead of fighting crimes is promoting them.He said we inherited our policing system from our British colonialrulers and failed as yet to develop it as per our own needs.<\/p>\n

He saidthis system is filthy and corrupt in its core from top to bottom.He said in fact our policemen are paid salaries from the taxpayers moneyfor looting and fleecing them. He said all sorts of mafia in our countryare backed, supported and protected by police officers. He said when thecommon man says that our cop is the biggest thief it is not very farfrom the truth.Altaf Shakoor said corrupt police are involved in all sorts of crimefrom peddling drugs to encroaching upon and selling government lands. Hesaid hoarding, smuggling and black marketing is not possible withoutovert and covert support of the police department. He said our trafficpolice loot drivers more than regulating traffic on streets. He saidsadly our police stations have become dens of bribery.Altaf Shakoor demanded an overhaul of the police department on modernlines. He urged use of computers, surveillance cameras and artificial intelligence in policing matters. He asked focusing on communitypolicing also to strengthen law and order at grassroots level.<\/p>\n

He demanded recruitment in police at all levels through the publicservice commission so that educated and civilized people are made thepart of the prestigious police department. He said the police departmentshould be made a symbol of respect and dignity instead of a badge ofcorruption and dishonesty. He said the traffic police is the most visible part of the policedepartment and it should be made a corruption-free entity. He saidissuance of driving licence should be made easy, as unlicensed driversare the easy prey of corrupt traffic cops.<\/p>\n

He said learner\u2019s licenses should be issued at police station andtraffic police post basis so as to promote the culture of abiding by thetraffic rules. He said use of hidden cameras and artificial intelligenceshould be increased to detect and check traffic violations.He asked to develop police academies and training schools on modernlines so that to train the young cops as per most modern lines. He saidwhen can\u2019t fight corruption and bribery unless we purge our own policedepartment from the corruption and dishonesty.<\/p>\n
