KARACHI \u2013 Renowned politician and former National Assembly Speaker Elahi Bakhsh Soomro on Thursday passed away in Karachi due to a cardiac arrest.<\/p>\n

The senior statesman was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city. Elahi Bakhsh Soomro, hailing from the influential Soomro family in Shikarpur, had a longstanding political career, contributing significantly to the governance of Sindh.<\/p>\n

Elahi Bakhsh Soomro served as the federal minister during General Zia-ul-Haq\u2019s government and later joined the Pakistan Muslim League -Quaid during Pervez Musharraf\u2019s era. He held the esteemed position of the Speaker of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

In 1985, he was elected as a member of the National Assembly in uncontested elections. Despite his notable contributions, he faced electoral defeat in the 2007 elections.<\/p>\n

The political and social figures expressed sorrow over his demise.<\/p>\n

Let it be known that some media reports claimed that Elahi Bakhsh Soomro\u2019s wife passed away.<\/p>\n
