LAHORE \u2013 Punjab\u2019s interim government imposed Section 144 in Lahore on Tuesday ahead of elections.<\/p>\n

Punjab Home Department imposed Section 144 in provincial capital till February 12, 2024, citing security threats.<\/p>\n

The measure aims to maintain law and order after reports of unrest in other parts of country.<\/p>\n

A notification was also issued by the interim provincial government for the imposition of Section 144 in Lahore.<\/p>\n

It said \u201cAs General Elections in country are scheduled to be held on February 8, 2024, and whereas, it has been reported that there exist threats to law and order situation and public peace in the Province of Punjab during the said General Elections.\u201d<\/p>\n

The notification said \u201cIn the wake of these elections, a large number of political gatherings, rallies, corner meetings etc. are likely to be held by the contesting candidates and political parties for 141 and 297 seats of National and Provincial Assembly, respectively all over Punjab which may serve as soft targets for any desperate act by terrorists and miscreants.\u201d<\/p>\n

The government said there are possibility of clashes between contesting candidates and rival political parties\/groups in different areas, cannot be ruled out, which may pose threats to public peace and order in the Province.<\/p>\n
