\u2018Oppenheimer<\/em>,\u2019 the epic film about the World War Two race to build the first atomic bomb, landed a leading 13 Oscar nominations on Tuesday and will compete for the prestigious Best Picture trophy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2018Oppenheimer<\/em>\u2018 outpaced the gothic comedy \u2018Poor Things<\/em>,\u2019 which received 11 nominations for the film industry\u2019s highest honours.<\/p>\n

Also in the best picture contest were the feminist doll adventure \u2018Barbie<\/em>,\u2019 Leonard Bernstein biopic \u2018Maestro<\/em>,\u2019 and Martin Scorsese\u2019s \u2018Killers of the Flower Moon<\/em>,\u2019 about the murders of members of the Osage Nation in Oklahoma in the 1920s.<\/p>\n

Christopher Nolan, a best director nominee for \u2018Oppenheimer<\/em>,\u2019 said it was \u201ca real thrill\u201d to see his film pile up so many nominations.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s a great year for movies, and it\u2019s a real honour to be included,\u201d Christopher Nolan said in an interview.<\/p>\n

The remaining nominees in the field of 10 best picture nominees were \u2018American Fiction<\/em>,\u2019 \u2018The Holdovers<\/em>,\u2019 \u2018Past Lives<\/em>,\u2019 \u2018The Zone of Interest<\/em>,\u2019 and the French film \u2018Anatomy of a Fall<\/em>.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Barbie<\/em>,\u2019 last year\u2019s highest-grossing movie, brought in eight nominations, including supporting actress for America Ferrera and supporting actor for Ryan Gosling. Voters passed over lead actress Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig.<\/p>\n

\u2018Oppenheimer<\/em>,\u2019 another blockbuster at movie box offices, scored a lead acting nomination for Cillian Murphy, who played scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, and for supporting cast Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr.<\/p>\n
