A member of Iran\u2019s Basij paramilitary force linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was shot dead during events falling on the anniversary of Mahsa Amini\u2019s death<\/a>, state media reported on Sunday.<\/p>\n Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurd, died in police custody<\/a> on September 16, 2022 following her arrest for an alleged breach of the Islamic republic\u2019s strict dress code for women.<\/p>\n Her death triggered months-long demonstrations<\/a> which saw hundreds killed, including dozens of security personnel, in what Tehran labelled<\/a> as \u201criots\u201d fomented by foreign governments and \u201chostile media\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cOne person was martyred and three people were injured\u201d on Saturday evening in a \u201cblind shooting\u201d by two unknown assailants towards Basij guards in the city of Nurabad in Southern Fars province, state news agency IRNA<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n The news agency did not immediately elaborate on the assailants\u2019 identity or the motivation for the shooting.<\/p>\n \u201cThe intelligence, security and law enforcement agencies of the province are trying to arrest the assailants\u201d who fled after the shooting, it said.<\/p>\n The Revolutionary Guards,meanwhile, announced that a dual national was arrested over \u201cattempts to organise riots and vandalism\u201d in Karaj city west of the capital Tehran.<\/p>\n The Guards did not elaborate further on the suspect\u2019s identity or other nationality.<\/p>\n On Saturday, authorities arrested several groups over accusations of \u201cplanning to create chaos\u201d and producing content to serve \u201chostile media\u201d, according to IRNA<\/em>.<\/p>\n Many of the arrests were made in Amini\u2019s home province of Kurdistan, as well as Iran\u2019s northwest and south, the agency added.<\/p>\n Others were arrested in the northeastern province of North Khorasan for instigating \u201criots\u201d, according to the Mehr<\/em> news agency.<\/p>\n Authorities in the central city of Isfahan have \u201cidentified 97 people\u201d and blocked 15 Instagram pages for attempting to stir up \u201cpublic opinion\u201d on the anniversary of the protests, IRNA<\/em> said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A member of Iran\u2019s Basij paramilitary force linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was shot dead during events falling on the anniversary of Mahsa Amini\u2019s death, state media reported on Sunday.
