The persistent absence of rain has \u00a0cast a dense fog over Islamabad \u00a0and Rawalpindi, causing chaos \u00a0in the twin cities as it disrupted daily life while impacting road \u00a0and air travel. Early morning flights, both domestic and international, faced \u00a0delays and disruptions, as did rail \u00a0services and vehicular movement \u00a0on city roads and motorways as \u00a0visibility \u00a0dropped \u00a0to \u00a0a \u00a0mere \u00a050 \u00a0meters in some areas.<\/p>\n

The \u00a0Islamabad \u00a0International \u00a0Airport was enveloped in fog by \u00a011pm on Saturday, causing further complications for air travel. The \u00a0adverse \u00a0weather \u00a0conditions \u00a0are\u00a0expected to persist,\u00a0affecting \u00a0daily \u00a0life \u00a0and \u00a0raising concerns about the well-being of residents. Surge in pneumonia The chilling temperatures, exac- erbated by the lack of sunlight, \u00a0have led to a surge in pneumonia \u00a0cases.<\/p>\n

Hospitals are witnessing \u00a0over 200 patients daily with complaints \u00a0related \u00a0to \u00a0extreme \u00a0cold \u00a0conditions. Doctors are advising people to \u00a0stay warm, cover their heads and \u00a0ears, and increase liquid intake, \u00a0particularly soups, to minimise \u00a0the effects of the dry cold. The \u00a0health \u00a0department \u00a0emphasises \u00a0the necessity \u00a0of \u00a0staying \u00a0warm \u00a0and \u00a0wearing \u00a0masks to combat the adverse effects of \u00a0the fog.<\/p>\n

As the fog\u2019s intensity gradually increases from 8pm until sunrise, \u00a0the darkened skies contribute to \u00a0a heightened cold atmosphere. The \u00a0fog \u00a0poses \u00a0significant \u00a0challenges for schoolchildren, commuters, and employees, making \u00a0daily routines difficult. According \u00a0to sources, \u00a0public hospitals \u00a0are \u00a0witnessing \u00a0a \u00a0rise in pneumonia cases, particularly \u00a0among children.<\/p>\n

Doctors advise \u00a0parents to safeguard their chil- dren from the cold and discour- age \u00a0outdoor \u00a0activities \u00a0during\u00a0 foggy conditions. Environmental \u00a0experts \u00a0assert \u00a0 that the escalating fog can only be alleviated by rainfall, which \u00a0not only \u00a0clears \u00a0the air \u00a0but also\u00a0 \u00a0mitigates \u00a0the \u00a0severity \u00a0of \u00a0the \u00a0cold.<\/p>\n

Talking \u00a0to \u00a0The \u00a0Express \u00a0Tribune, \u00a0Dr Ijaz Ahmed, Chief Executive \u00a0Officer \u00a0of \u00a0the \u00a0District \u00a0Health \u00a0Authority, highlighted the continuous \u00a0surge \u00a0in \u00a0fog \u00a0intensity, leading \u00a0to a corresponding \u00a0in- crease in cold related respiratory \u00a0diseases. \u201cThe ongoing drought exacerbates the situation, contributing \u00a0to a spike in pneumonia cases,\u201d \u00a0he said.
