{"id":49805,"date":"2024-01-19T13:10:05","date_gmt":"2024-01-19T13:10:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/not-the-qazi-faez-isa-i-was-expecting-says-ptis-gohar-after-sc-upholds-decision-stripping-party-of-bat\/"},"modified":"2024-01-19T13:10:05","modified_gmt":"2024-01-19T13:10:05","slug":"not-the-qazi-faez-isa-i-was-expecting-says-ptis-gohar-after-sc-upholds-decision-stripping-party-of-bat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/not-the-qazi-faez-isa-i-was-expecting-says-ptis-gohar-after-sc-upholds-decision-stripping-party-of-bat\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Not the Qazi Faez Isa I was expecting,\u2019 says PTI\u2019s Gohar after SC upholds decision stripping party of \u2018bat\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Friday expressed disappointment at the Supreme Court\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1805488\">decision<\/a> on the party\u2019s iconic electoral symbol \u2018bat\u2019 and called it a \u201cbig punishment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>After marathon hearings last week, a three-member apex court bench \u2014 headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa \u2014 upheld the Election Commission of Pakistan\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1800094\">Dec 22 decision<\/a> to declare the PTI\u2019s intra-party polls as \u201cunconstitutional\u201d and revoke its electoral symbol.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the party\u2019s members would now be contesting the elections as independent candidates with different electoral symbols and the party no longer has the right to reserved seats for women and minorities.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Barrister Gohar said the PTI would soon issue a list of party-affiliated candidates for the February 8 polls on its social media channels but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1805993\">expressed fear<\/a> that the SC judgment would increase horse-trading.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1806402\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Meanwhile, incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan said he had assigned the task of awarding party tickets to Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz as he was not allowed to deliberate on the tickets and got little input about the candidates.<\/p>\n<p>During a conversation with reporters at Adiala Jail, Imran said the PTI would spring a \u201csurprise\u201d on Feb 8 through its \u2018Plan C\u2019 but did not elaborate further.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview on <em>Dawn News<\/em> programme \u2018Doosra Rukh\u2019 today, to be aired later tonight, Barrister Gohar was questioned about the SC verdict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not the Qazi Faez Isa I was expecting,\u201d he responded, saying that he had always respected the CJP during the latter\u2019s time at the Balochistan High Court. \u201cIn this case, I was 100 per cent expecting a different output,\u201d Barrister Gohar said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  sm:w-1\/2  w-full  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\">\n<p>    <iframe class=\"nk-iframe\" onload=\"setInterval(()=&gt;{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:400px;position:relative\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/card\/1685716\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>When asked whether the reference filed against Justice Isa during the PTI government\u2019s tenure had a role in recent judgments against the party, Gohar said the CJP should have set aside all the other things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou cannot give such a big punishment to a political party,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Gohar also alleged that PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif played a big role in revoking the PTI\u2019s electoral symbol. \u201cNawaz brings the umpire into the game and plays with him. This time, he\u2019s playing a kind of game in which he is not allowing our team to play,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe umpire is with Nawaz, everything has been prepared for him,\u201d Gohar claimed, adding that a \u201cdemocracy should be run like a democracy\u201d. \u201cThe clash of the titans has to come to an end,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Questioned about PTI founding member Akbar S. Babar, Gohar said he was a \u201cplanted individual who works on other people\u2019s directions\u201d. \u201cWhen has he done anything for this party?\u201d he questioned. \u201cHe is not our member, nor has he been in the past 13 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gohar also confirmed that no one had been in contact with Imran at Adiala Jail, saying that the PTI founder was in \u201cno mood\u201d to meet anyone.<\/p>\n<p>The PTI leader also appreciated President Arif Alvi, who he confirmed was \u201cstill with\u201d the PTI.
