During his visit to Karachi this week, US Deputy Chief of Mission Andrew Schofer underscored the crucial role of sustainable shipping practices in mitigating climate change.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The visiting dignitary<\/a><\/em> stressed on having a strong partnership between the United States and the province of Sindh, discussing opportunities to expand development, trade, and commercial ties.<\/p>\n

He was of the view that strengthening\u00a0people-to-people relationships was\u00a0the cornerstone of existing\u00a0bilateral relationship, according to a statement issued by his office, following the visit from September 13 to 16, 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He co-hosted the Green Shipping<\/a><\/em> roundtable, during which\u00a0stakeholders discussed opportunities to reduce carbon emissions in the port, shipping, and logistics sectors in Pakistan.<\/p>\n

Port authorities, industry leaders and other key actors in the ports and shipping value chain discussed how to promote environmentally friendly and sustainable shipping practices and ways to support the Green Shipping Challenge at COP28.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough events like the one today, we are encouraging bilateral dialogue on climate action and exploring innovative solutions to strengthen Pakistan\u2019s climate resilience,\u201d said Schofer.<\/p>\n

He praised the attendees\u2019 commitment and engagement to support a sector-wide transition to more sustainable shipping practices.<\/p>\n

The visit included a stop at Lincoln Corner Karachi, where Schofer met with students, entrepreneurs\u00a0and volunteers, applauding their dedication and creativity. He highlighted the significance of youth-led innovation in driving progress and fostering strong US-Pakistan relations.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Chief of Mission also underscored the importance of religious tolerance during a meeting with minority leaders, reaffirming his country’s unwavering support for the rights of Pakistani religious minorities.<\/p>\n

Schofer’s trip\u00a0wrapped up with a visit to Port Qasim,\u00a0where he held productive meetings with Port Qasim Authority Chairperso Rear Admiral (Retd) Syed Hasan Nasir Shah\u00a0and members of Cargill and Engro Corporation leadership.<\/p>\n

The meetings focused on green shipping, port operations, energy solutions and other innovative approaches aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s trade competitiveness. Participants discussed\u00a0increasing ways to connect with Pakistan\u2019s largest export market – the United States.<\/p>\n

The US-Pakistan \u201cGreen Alliance\u201d framework was highlighted as a shared commitment to sustainability and climate resilience.<\/p>\n
