The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police has successfully prevented a late-night terrorist attack on the Pezu police station in Lakki<\/a> Marwat district. The statement about this has been made by the District Police Officer, Tariq Habib.<\/p>\n

While sharing the information, DPO Tariq Habib, \u201cPolicemen at the Gandi Chowk checkpost suspected the presence and the movement of the six terrorists around the midnight and confronted them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The DPO added that the policemen were already alert and forced the terrorists to escape. All the police officials remained safe.<\/p>\n

A heavy police contingent and an armed personal carrier (APC) reached the site of the incident, the official added.<\/p>\n

DPO Habib has further appreciated the policemen for preventing the attack. While extending the appreciation remarks, DPO Habib has also termed Lakki Marwat police<\/a> a \u201cprofessional and courageous force that has always fulfilled its role on the frontline in the tough circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n

He asserted that, \u201cThe Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police is ready for every kind of situation.\u201d The DPO further stated that, \u201cKP Inspector General Akhtar Hayat Khan had made decision to hand out certificates and reward the police officials who responded to the attack.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pakistan has experienced a spike in the terror activities in the recent months, mainly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, after the banned militant Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.<\/p>\n

As per the annual security report issued by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), Pakistan has witnessed 1,524 violence related fatalities and 1,463 injuries from 789 terror attacks and counter-terror operations in 2023- marking a record 6-year high.<\/p>\n

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces were the primary centres of violence, accounting for more than 90% of all fatalities and 84pc of attacks, including the incidents of terrorism and security forces operations.<\/p>\n

The premises of the Government Model High School in Balochistan\u2019s Kharan, was attacked by group of unknown men during the training session for the polling staff. Fortunately, the government officials and election commission staff conducting the training remained unharmed.<\/p>\n

During the past week, four militants, including a \u201chigh value terrorist\u201d, were killed in two separate operations in the North Waziristan and Dera Ismail Khan districts. Days before that, two of the Pakistan army troops were martyred in an exchange of fire with the terrorists in the Lakki Marwat area.<\/p>\n
