He was chosen as the greatest player by national teams coaches, captains, journalists, and fans.<\/p>\n<p>Messi\u00a0 did not collect the trophey.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s reward period began the day following the World Cup final in Qatar and ran from December 19, 2022, to August 20, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Haaland came in second in the poll, having scored 52 goals in 53 games across all competitions in the 2022\u201323 season, helping City win a quadruple of Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League titles.<\/p>\n<p>The 23-year-old lost out to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bolnews.com\/sports\/2023\/12\/lionel-messi-leaves-possibility-of-2026-world-cup-participation\/\">Messi<\/a> despite having the same number of points because fewer national team leaders gave him their first-place vote.<\/p>\n<p>Pep Guardiola of City took up the Best Men\u2019s Coach title. The Spaniard dedicated his prize to fellow nominees Simone Inzaghi and Luciano Spalletti.
