Former first lady and the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, challenged the illegal marriage case in the Islamabad High Court on Monday.<\/p>\n

The petition prays that the decision of the sessions court judge, passed on January 11, be annulled. It added that the case against her and her husband is ‘malicious’.<\/p>\n

Bushra also urged the court to dismiss the case and issue a stay order on the trial court proceedings.<\/p>\n

The petition reads that the ex-husband of the former first lady, Khawar Manika, had filed a complaint with malice for nefarious purposes.<\/p>\n

A false allegation of marriage during iddat <\/em>was made based on fake and forged documents, the petition stated.<\/p>\n

She clarified that Manika had divorced her on November 14, 2017, along with a verbal divorce on April 15, 2017. She added that she then moved to her mother’s\u00a0place and resided there till her marriage with Imran on January 1, 2018.<\/p>\n

“The Supreme Court Shariat Appellate Bench declared that 39 days are enough to complete the period of iddat<\/em>,” added the petition.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Three judgments of the high courts were also presented in the petition as judicial precedents, stating that high courts in their judgement called a marriage during iddat<\/em>\u00a0irregular, but did not declare it un-Islamic or against Shariah.<\/p>\n

The petitioner urged the court to dismiss Khawar Manika\u2019s complaint.<\/p>\n
