{"id":47611,"date":"2024-01-14T01:43:04","date_gmt":"2024-01-14T01:43:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/pti-candidates-to-contest-election-independently-as-bat-revoked\/"},"modified":"2024-01-14T01:43:04","modified_gmt":"2024-01-14T01:43:04","slug":"pti-candidates-to-contest-election-independently-as-bat-revoked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pakistaninewspaperlist.com\/news\/pti-candidates-to-contest-election-independently-as-bat-revoked\/","title":{"rendered":"PTI candidates to contest election independently as \u2018bat\u2019 revoked"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>ISLAMABAD: Following the Supreme Court\u2019s (SC) decision setting aside the Peshawar High Court (PHC) order that reinstated \u201cbat\u201d as the party\u2019s electoral symbol, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced that its candidates would contest elections independently, ARY News reported on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CJP Qazi Faez Isa-led three-member bench, a little before midnight, announced the verdict, dealing a huge blow to Imran Khan-led PTI\u2019s hopes of retaining its symbol.<\/p>\n<p>Talking to journalists outside the apex court, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that all the party candidates will contest the Feb 8 general elections independently. \u201cWe will issue a list of all our candidates with their election symbols,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Barrister Gohar noted that the Supreme court\u2019s order was \u2018controversial\u2019 and it had \u2018deeply disappointed\u2019 him, announcing that his party would challenge the Supreme Court\u2019s verdict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether we have the bat or not, the people are still us,\u201d the PTI chief said, noting that it was the court\u2019s duty to ensure that every person\u2019s basic rights are guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that the technical grounds, on which the judgment was given, was misread, claiming that contesting elections independently would open new doors of corruption.<\/p>\n<p>Taking over the presser, PTI leader Barrister Ali Zafar said the party was anticipating the decision, therefore, their preparations were complete. \u201cWe will compete the February 8 with all-out force,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=476&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Farynewsasia%2Fvideos%2F345082855048762%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=395&amp;t=0\" width=\"395\" height=\"476\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPTI candidates cannot be barred from contesting elections as independents\u201d, Ali Zafar said, regretting that \u2018soft questions\u2019 were asked from the people who appeared before the apex court.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Supreme Court order<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Announcing the verdict, CJP Faez Isa stated that the plea in Peshawar High Court (PHC) was inadmissible as a single case cannot proceed in two High Courts at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>The verdict said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) failed to present evidence of holding transparent intra-party elections as all political parties are bound to hold free and fair intra-party elections.<\/p>\n<p>The chief justice said the ECP \u201chas been calling upon the PTI to hold its intra-party elections since May 24, 2021 and at that time the PTI was in the federal government and in some provinces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Read More:<a href=\"https:\/\/arynews.tv\/supreme-court-hearing-on-ecp-plea-against-ptis-bat-symbol\/\"> PTI loses \u201cbat\u201d as SC declares PHC verdict \u2018null and void\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTherefore, it cannot be stated that ECP was victimising PTI.
